Default PS3 Shutting off!

Please help! My son's PS3 just started to shut off by it self! When he turns it on it shows like a white or a very light color light, and then the other one starts to blink green, and it then shuts off.
Has anyone experienced this? is there a fix?

Thanks,

Eric

Sounds to me that the console may be overheating. PS3's shutdown to prevent damage when heat gets to high. Make sure the consoles air vents aint being obstructed, and clean any dust that may have collected around them.

No, it does not need a cooler. I would recommend never getting one. Make sure as you are looking at the ps3 that the right side has ample room along with the back of the console. If you have it vertical, turn it horizontal as this was proven the best way for the console to allow the hot air to exit.

If your PS3 is very close to a tv get it away from there for a few days because TVs contribute to overheating.

If it's still new, call Sony and arrange for a replacement or repair. It definitely not something you can look up on internet forums for.

Some say they run cooler standing on their end, mine is on end and I have never had a heat problem. That said check your placement to the TV, try standing in on end if its not. I would not get a cooler for it, heard bad things there, but I would call Sony if it keeps happening after trying different stuff.

I have never heard of one overheating but it may not be overheating, there are alot of things it could be. Try easy stuff first and see what happens.

Thank you all for the suggestions and input, but I was turning the unit on for the 1st time yesterday in few hours and it would just shut off, so I am not sure if that is exactly the case. he has had his ps3 for a little over a year now, with no problems of heating or noise what so ever. I read in another site that it maybe a DMZ issue, and I am not sure if I understand that.

Thanks again,

Eric

Since I bought my PS3 a year ago I have had it vertical ever since and it has never overheated. Sometimes I'll leave it on as well for most of the day.
