The song wasn't a hit in the US but it was a big hit in Italy. After the song went to #1 in Italy, Phoebe traveled to Italy to perform the song on Italian music TV shows:

The 3rd party sellers on Amazon are currently selling it for around $30 which is too much in my opinion. It's a decent release and is very watchable on my OLED TV but I'd wait until you can find it for around $10-$15 on Amazon or eBay. If you are buying from a 3rd party seller on Amazon, I'd recommend contacting them prior to purchase and get them to confirm that they are selling the Universal/StudioCanal DVD and not one of the cheap Asian bootleg DVDs.

The S-C is miles better than the Korean(?) releases, some of which are optically blurred and may have been boots of the Japanese release which I had at one time. Phoebe was a huge star in Japan. I think her mother might be Filipina.
I'm pretty sure that was a legit release, and it was in 1.85/75, but the compression was atrocious. Lot of readily visible macroblocking.
The quality of the 4:3 S-C was night and day better.

This is one of the few films I wouldn't mind having the full frame version of.
I can't imagine any supplemental material for this will be all that robust, so another iteration of the film in a different AR would have been nice. Doubt it would ever happen though.

I still think this is a prank or something. I just can't believe the film that's been number one on my wishlist for so many years is finally getting a release. Nope. I'll believe it when I'm actually holding a copy. If this is real, then this make's my year. Release of the year already, for my money.

I'd totally put this one out of my mind- like Darlings and Goodbar. I was convinced it just wasn't going to happen.

You know, I had wondered this as well. I think she hated the film, so I wonder if the passage of time has softened her opinion of it? Would love to have a new interview with her, but that's probably very wishful thinking.

There's zero chance of a new interview with her about this movie or any of her other movies. I think the best we can hope for is interviews with Stuart Gillard (director/screenwriter), Willie Aames, Robert Lantos (producer and founder of RSL), or Joel Diamond (writer/producer of the theme song).

years ago. I love this movie. I had the biggest crush on Willie Aames back in the day.

Now if someone would put out The Pirate Movie on blu, I'd be thrilled.
