Default Anyone know if there will ever be "PS Points"?

I love my PS3... however I do admit I get jealous when I read about Xbox players having the achievements in games. I would LOVE to have that. Im ASSUMING Home will bring their version of that to us. Whenever that comes.

The only other thing that Im jealous of for the Xbox is they have ways of earning MS Points. They can spend them on things in the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Does anyone know if PS will ever get something similar? It would be nice if they put out a system where you got "PS Points" for buying certain games, or participating in surveys, or even for getting certain achievements in games etc. That type of thing. Then you can spend them in the PS Store instead of spending actual Cash. I realize MOST of the MS Points are actually "bought" however they can earn them for free as well.

Anyone have any input on this? Or any inside info would be even better.

I don't have any input on this. But I think that would be pretty cool to have.

Of course there's gonna be people screaming how Sony rip off from MS!

Xbox Live has points you can earn free? Never knew that.

I doubt PSN will have those freebie points though. First off, PSN doesn't use points: it uses actual money. And since when do people give away free money? MS gives away their points because the users do have to pay to play, so why not give them a little freebie every now and then. But since you don't pay to play with the PSN, you probably aren't going to get free points.

I'd much rather have Acheivments that free points though.

Well I can understand that however its also good marketing technique. They will get tons of feedback on things through optional surveys that people WOULD take to get the free points. They would also boost certain game sales by offering free points vouchers with them etc...

Its just a thought

Xbox Live doesnt have free points. He is refering to their achievement system. Achievements are points you can earn in game by acomplishing certain presets. The points only build your Gamer Score and are not worth anything or used for anything other then bragging rights for the most part. Games have a max of 1000 achivement points you can get, with Live arcade games having 200 points available. Add-on content can add 300 more points i think. The Marketplace points is what is used to make purchaces on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Sony has a plan to have Trophies with Home. I can only assume that the system will be something like achivements on Xbox. Where once you do a certain thing in the game, you get a trophie for it. From the internet buzz, you can invite people into your home space to show off your trophies.

And there are PS Store cards that should be hitting stores soon. They are just prepaid cards for those who do not want to or can not use a credit card. They have been available in Japan since Nov I believe. IF you can get a hold of one,via import or something, you may be able to use it in any PS store, though I could be wrong about that.

I got it!

Maybe once Home becomes a full fledge virtual world. People can work in it, become employee or something. They're paycheck would be Home-Cash, which then can be use to purchase things off of PS store. The more things you buy from PS store with Home-Cash the more store credit you earn. With these store credits you then can go into Home and use them to buy Home clothes, furniture, etc and so forth.

This way both Home and PS store can be active at the same time.

Of course there might be business flaw in my suggestion, but hey, I'm just one guy. If a whole entire group of people work together, they can make newer things even cooler than XBL, achievements/XBL points system.

Actually I WAS speaking of the xbox live points used to purchase things. I have friends who have done random things such as surveys etc and gotten free points that they have used to buy DLC from the marketplace.

The ways i mentioned getting points was more of a hypothetical for what PS could do etc.

However I DO want achievements et al as well!

achievements are the only thing i miss about my 360.

dont like the sound of the ones in home,do i need to invite people to my virtual home to see them?

just copy paste the 360 idea and we will just ignore the 360 fanboys moaning

sony mentioned that they will be bringing this to the PS3. I believe they decided at the time to call it ACCOMPLISHMENT. I don't when exactly they will be pulling this off. but i do know that this is on the agenda of sony to release it.

Sony's doing trophies for Home no points that I know of. Though personally I have always found the achievements/points stupid. Especially since M$ makes you pay for everything including gamer pics, videos, demos (correct me if I am wrong)

No, demos are free. It's just that they delay em for Silver members.

Am I the only one who really doesn't want to see achievements?

I don't like how this type of system encourages addictive play. Videogame addiction is already a serious enough social problem, and this is absolute kryptonite to any completionist personality.

Beating challenges to unlock bonus content of a game is one thing. But many of these challenges encourage incredible time investments that can draw in even the most casual of gamers.

I like the idea of only showing what you want, but that may only be for the home side of things (and no, I don't know any more than non-home testers on that front).

And I'll throttle someone at Sony if they make the stupid Microsoft mistake* of adding games you haven't bought to the list of games you own/track scores for also bumping up your maximum possible 'score' even though you can't get any of it without paying for a game you don't necessarily want.

Back to switching profiles not only for checking different regional stores but also for playing downloadable small game demos and rented/borrowed games, then.

Yep, Microsoft's system is far from perfect.

*mistake in our eyes, not Microsoft's if someone's weak enough to buy a game because of the bad mark of uncompleteness on their profile.

I don't care if they bring it or not. It's not like I try to pursue any of them on XBL.
