It was in HD, not upscaled. The BBC apparently have strict rules about what they show on BBC HD.

The transfer looked pretty clean, not as much grain as you would expect on a Spielberg film. I did notice that from time to time the image appeared to momentarily go out of focus a bit. Maybe this is a problem with the encoding or transfer, but possibly on the original. Sound was OK, but not exactly brilliant... then again it is a few years old. Some of the effects looked a bit dated and cheesy, but hey... that's HD for you!!!

Of course this was 1080i... I would expect the 1080P version to be s further step up in quality.

No... It was letterboxed with lovely black bars top and bottom. Whoever wrote that was clearly not watching BBC HD, or else they hit the zoom button to fill their screens.

What you got was what Mr Spielberg intended

I don't know what they were watching, but it certainly wasn't what I was watching. I wouldn't take too much notice of AVS... they have had a reputation for BS (remember the format war )

I have attached a couple of pics showing "Raiders of the Lost Arc" replaying off my Sky HD box.

Is there an SD channel as well? Maybe they watched the wrong channel.

It was simulcast in SD on BBC One... BBC HD is pretty hard to miss with the Channel ident. in the top corner. BBC HD is only available via satellite, so if they got them confused it shows what the typical AVS crowd is like (and why they were mostly HD-DVD fanboys).

Aside from the format war, AVS is usually a very viable source.

All I have to say is:

PS. Every time I read about Lucas holding this back from Blu-Ray I weep.

Will the original of this transfer used for the blu-ray or would it be a new transfer?

I'm sure someone recorded the Raiders in HD 720p, and is putting up a torrent as we speak. They already have Starwars in HD, and I've seen a few samples, and Jebus, if it looks that good at 720p HD. I can only Imagine when Lucas officialy releases it.
