Post David Mamet's "Redbelt" (out May 9)...

I just saw the trailer for "Redbelt", the latest film from director David Mamet ("Spartan", "Heist"). From the looks of it, it seems to be pretty good. Chiwetel Ejiofor (the film's main character) seems to give a somewhat conflicted, yet very convincing portrayal of a bad-ass jiu-jitsu martial artist/instructor. Next, director Mamet decides to cast -- of all people -- Tim Allen in a "serious" role as a down-and-out action movie star. As a big departure from his usual comedic roles (especially coming off of the successes of "Wild Hogs" and "The Santa Clause 3"), it seems that Allen will do great with his performance. With Mamet regulars Joe Mantegna, Ricky Jay, and Rebecca Pidgeon (who plays Tim Allen's wife), along with Alice Braga and Emily Mortimer, it looks like "Redbelt" may have Oscar written all over it sometime in the near future, but only time well tell...

For those who haven't seen the trailer, here's the website:

P.S. If I had to choose between two comedy greats taking on "serious" dramatic performances, I'd watch Tim Allen in this film over Jim Carrey in "The Number 23" any day of the week!
