Post David Mamet's "Spartan" (2004) and "Heist" (2002)

Two very underrated movies from writer/director David Mamet! And since Warner is busy putting most of their catalog releases on Blu-ray, they should add these two great thrillers to the list. Val Kilmer's performance in "Spartan" was way above-average, and the action, mystery, and intrigue in said film was top-notch! And in "Spartan", you also see Kristen Bell in the film before "Veronica Mars" made her a star! And "Heist" showcases a fine mix of action, suspense, double-crosses, and triple-crosses, not to mention the fine performances of Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito, Delroy Lindo, Sam Rockwell, Rebecca Pidgeon, and Ricky Jay. Warner should hurry up and announce these, and hopefully they won't hesitate in putting in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 tracks for both films!

+1 for Spartan.

Wouldn't mind seeing The Spanish Prisoner on Blu either.

Why are studios neglecting Mamet's films?

Yes please to both of those. I love the last exchange between Danny DeVito and Gene Hackman in Heist. I think Spanish Prisoner is getting a blu release in France towards Autumn. I hope Criterion do House Of Games and Homicide in due course and I wouldn't say no to State And Main or Things Change

Anybody have the German Blu of Spartan? I upgraded my DVD to HD in Vudu, but it unfortunately is not OAR. Why is Redbelt the only Mamet film on BD in the US?! The Spanish Prisoner isn't even in print on DVD anymore.

I'm happy with the German blu of Spartan, its a decent upgrade, could probably be better if more money was spent but its better than the DVD. I think its locked to B http://www.caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergl...D=1393#auswahl

Actually, it is in print again, as a title in Sony's burn-on-demand library. http://shop.warnerarchive.com/produc...+1000390484.do

The German Blu looks nice, but I wouldn't spend the money to import a disc with such a limited improvement unless it was Region Free and I could play it anywhere. Hopefully Warner makes it a budget title sooner or later.

Way back when you said you think the German Blu of Spartan may be locked to region B. Do you happen to know for sure if it is locked, now? Thanks!

Yes, Spartan (2004) and Heist (2001) are both amazing Mamet films - I saw both in the theater. I haven't seen these available for streaming w/good prints at all.

So, I would like to see them issued on Blu; or, at the least, decent DVD's.

Warner used to release a decent size of batch of back catalogue titles a couple of times per year but these seem to be drying up.

I think the last one I imported to the UK was Sharky's Machine. I've never seen Spartan but picked it up a few months ago very cheap on DVD and it's on my to-watch pile.

Two of my very favorites of the era. Have been eyeing the overseas version of Spartan. Would love to see these come along.

A damn good film, and one of Val Kilmer's best films.

Reviving an older thread here, as I couldn't find anything else on Mamet. I came across this today, and being a fan of this film was intrigued, especially with the listed price...... although I am not a fan of MOD. Anyone know anything about who's manufacturing this?
