Ok, here's the deal, I'm 16 years old, I have a 32" Sharp 1080p TV in my room, I'm getting a receiver with 2 HDMI outputs and a 5.1 speaker setup. I want to connect all my stuff to both the TV and a projector using HDMI cables so that i can watch the projector at night time. My room is 13 by 7.5 feet and i want to get a projector to project onto a 92" projection screen, so I'm going to project onto a sidewall, the projector can only be 13 feet away at the farthest and my futon is 6 feet away from the wall. So I was wondering if I should waist $3000 for a 1080p projector or just be happy with a $1000 720p projector.

I have the Panasonic AX200U (that I picked up for $1249 with an extra year warranty and 52 free rentals at Blockbuster) that projects at 720p/1080i and love it. It is sitting at about 13.5 feet away and is projected at 110 inches. The image looks great. It is very bright during the day and looks amazing at night. I don't know where you are getting all that money to spend on A/V equipment; but I would get a 720p projector that you will love for the next 6 years through college and then once you get out, get the nicest thing. Save your money now for college expenses; it isn't cheap.

depends on screen size. sorry but a 1080p 32" is like a 12 megapixel camera to take post-card pictures. dont need that much resolution for the size. 40" you can start to see the difference. 46" and up always 1080p
92" you'll def notice 1080p. its worth it |

Exactly. Had to beat it into an otherwise knowledgeable BB employee yesterday that sitting 7 ft away from a 52" Bravia is not the same as sitting in front of a 46" Bravia.
Each individual dot on the screen is larger with a bigger TV. With two different sized screens, if you sit 6-7' away, you are more likely to notice each individual dot on the 52". Has to do with the Resolving power of the human eye and the dot pitch (the size of an individual pixel) - so one person may notice a slight grainyness to the picture, where another person might not. Sit too close to ANY TV - you see the individual pixels. Sit too far away, you will lose the high definition effect, since the individual lines/pixels will start to 'blur' back together because your eye can no longer resolve each individual line/column of pixels. Cheers, Doc. |

For 92" screen width you could sit about 10 feet away and you could fully appreciate 1080p. When you are at 13.5 feet, I expect you would still see the difference. I would like to recommend 1080p, however, Homura has a valid point.
I cannot recommend a 16 year old student to waist $3000 for a projector. I expect you would be happy with a 720p projector. |

I personally have my 720p projector at 19 feet back and it looks amazing. I can't really see how it could look any better. Detail is astounding and I'd much rather view a movie at home rather than go to the theater. Either way you decide to go, I promise you will not be disappointed.

I wouldn't buy a T.V. under 42" at anything other than 720p, and I would never buy a projector that isn't 1080p
It's up to you though, but I'm not sure what your future plans on.... if you go to college in 2 years, what are you going to do with a Projector that will cast a 100+ inch screen??? Maybe get yourself a nice 50+ inch plasma, and you can usually find a place to put it. It'd be big for a dorm room, that's for sure!!!! |

If I understood you, you want to display your projector image on a 92" screen.
In your bedroom. 6 feet away. Well IF you can get it to fill the whole thing in such a small space, you HAVE to go with 1080p. First, you are very young and prolly shouldn't get this now anyways (better things to do with your money - I know, I was the same way), but if you decide to, get something you will not have to upgrade later down the road. The 1080p will look better in a bigger room when you move out. As for the optimal size to distance ratio, something that is 92" big should be much farther away than 6 feet even at 1080p. Sure it will look really impressive there, but for the best quality of the image, you should be about 12 feet away. ![]() If you can really really REALLY afford to spend $3k, go with the 1080p cause it will last you much longer. If you think there is something you should do with your money instead, go with the 720p. Otherwise I would suggest you wait until you are a little older, mainly cause this is a very big investment that you might regret a little down the road. |
