Default Master and Commander review at HomeTheaterSpot

REview at Home Theater Spot

Overall score was a 92
Audio 98
Video 86

The wrap up:
Quote:
Master and Commander – Far side of the world is a well written, directed and executed film. Since its release on DVD it has been considered one of the best audio mixes to date for the format. Fox has seen fit to include Lossless DTS-HD 5.1 Master Lossless audio tracks on all of their Blu-ray disc releases which fans surely do appreciate. With the appearance now of blu-ray disc players and receivers and pre/pros capable of decoding the DTS-HD MA signal we are now getting a taste of the full potential of what it has to offer. This reference quality audio presentation elevates Master and Commander to another level entirely and is sure to please its rather large fan base. Some may find the video offering a bit disappointing but that was not the case in my opinion. I felt that Director Peter Weir’s vision of what he wanted this film to look like has been preserved. If there is room for improvement it lies in the bonus content offered which I think fans will find disappointing.

This is a film that I have looked forward to on blu-ray disc. When all was said and done I am thrilled to have it and I enjoyed its presentation in “blu”. I suspect you will too. Recommended.

The wrap up:
If that video score is any indication...it will probably get 3.5 or a 4.0 for PQ which is just not good enough for me on Bluray. One thing i know about Master and Commander the opening battle scene should be Demo marterial. The rest of the movie leaves alot to be desired...it was an overrated movie imo.

Alright, they're going to board you and kill you.

Audio is worth this movie just in itself, and if they make the PQ just a wee-bit better, I'm sold. Heck I've been sold. Since it was supposed to come out on Oct 2. One of the reasons I got into Blu-ray.

I've been viewing this the last two nights and I probably will never take the single disc SD DVD off my shelf again! Now if folks think that isn't saying much, that SD DVD got 4.5 for PQ on dvdtalk.com!

Don't concern yourself with the score so much as there is difficult material at times to deal with in this film. Some will take real notice of the PQ in other places during the film. It isn't eye popping per se but quite appealing. I never enjoyed it so much. This is something you want if you like this movie! Trust me!

I bet you didn't like The Godfather either. Overrated? Underrated certainly.

Don't think the movie is Overrated. There wasn't a BIG buzz about the movie. Nobody was running to the theater to see it. So it can't be Overrated.

I saw this film in the theater and loved it!

Bought it on DVD and loved it. I'll have to wait a little while to get the Blu-ray, but I'm sure I'll love it as well.

I saw it when it came out on DVD. I liked it. The SQ was off the charts at the time.
