Dear Zachary

It's suprising to not see a lot about this movie. I think this documentary is a great idea and it's such a heart breaking story.

On November 5th 2001, Dr. Andrew Bagby was shot and killed. The main suspect, Shirley Jane Turner, fled to Canada to avoid prosecution and fought extradition in Canadian courts while free on bail. She then announced that she was pregnant with Andrew's child.

In order to get to know the only living part of their son that was left, Andrew's parents when to Canada to meet their son's killer and meet their grandson Zachary.

Kurt Kuenne, in order for Zachary to get to know his dad, visited all of his friends and relatives so that they could give him first hand accounts on Andrew's life and hopefully Zachary would understand what his father was like. Kurt set out across the country to make the film and his final destination would be Canada where Zachary and his grandparents resided.

On August 17 2003, Shirley killed baby Zachary and herself.

This movie is the footage Kurt collected from all of Andrews friends and family along with the story of what was happening.

I've never heard this story, but it sounds depressing. Compelling maybe, but I don't think I'd ever watch this.

+1. If I want to watch something about crazy people and suicide, I just need to turn on the news.

I saw this.
Very well done.
Don't think I could ever watch it again because its all very heavy handed, but I would recommend people to see it. It almost needs to be seen by everyone I think.

I realize I'm reviving a necrotic thread, but I wanted to say how great this documentary was (though it sucks that the first post isn't spoiler protected).

I watched it yesterday and felt so emotionally drained. It has come into my thoughts many times today. It's so incredibly sad, but also life affirming in a genuine heartfelt way. I felt very moved by it.

Anyone else seen this and what are your thoughts?

Watched it a few years back and it instantly became the best documentary I've even seen, and I've seen a lot of documentaries.

The story was well told and so heartbreaking.
