Default Top Gun

Am I wrong, or was Top Gun scheduled to be released on Blu prior to Paramount going HD DVD exclusive? A few online retailers still have the item listed in inventory but unavailable.

I remember reading a while back that it was actually manufactured but never shipped. If that's the case, that should be a pretty easy/quick release for Paramount.

As corny as this movie is, I still love it and plan to buy it as soon as it is out on Blu.

Well, Marcus Aurelius there beat me to the punch, but he nailed it, he's got it right.

As many flaws as Top Gun has, it is one of my favorite escapist movies. People don't buy this movie for the dialog they it for the ACM (Dogfigting) and to show off their sound systems.

Top Gun is one of those nostalgia movies to me. I'll probably buy it just so I can celebrate Goose perishing again, and watching Tom Cruise stumble along through the haze of anguished expressions, or was it constipation?

I'll wait for the sequel. I believe it was much better.

Cool

I am a big fan of this movie and its close sibling, "Days of Thunder". When these come out they are a must own for showing off my surround!

Does anybody recall whether Paramount had a different video and audio encode for Top Gun Blu-ray than for HD DVD? I believe Paramount had already switched to doing different ports... I'd buy Top Gun in a heart beat if the audio track was 5.1 or 7.1 lossless.... Same for Days of Thunder...

Rup.

Top Gun should be one of Paramount's first Blu releases.

They had to have pressed them because I remember dvdempire.com had the back of the case and it had uncompressed audio.

I'm not into men at all but somehow after reading the title of this thread I have an irresistable urge to see a shirtless and oiled-up Rick Rossovich strutting around and flexing his muscles on the beach.

Isn't this one of those movies that got really panned by reviews for having bad picture quality on HD DVD? As much as I want Top Gun, I wish they'd do another transfer first.
