Default Best 40 inch tv for the money?

Im looking for the best 40+inch tv for the money. Looking to spend about 1,000 or a little more or less. Doesn't have to be 1080p, but it is preferred. Needs at least 2 hdmi ports as well. I know thats a lot to ask for for the budget, but Im looking for a great deal if anyone knows any retailers with something like that. Prefer actual stores to online retailers. Is Insignia any good? They have plasmas that fit this description, but their price seems very cheap and the contrast ratios seem low.

my brother in law just bought that TV, very nice.

Used DVE to calibrate it, and it was pretty darn close right out of the box.

Great picture too.

LCD -

New Sonys. The S is slightly cheaper, get the V if possible. Probably worth the 60 dollars difference.

Just bought the TH-42PX80U from Vann's a couple of weeks ago for our guest room. It is a great TV price/performance wise. 720p is generally plenty at this screen size for the usual viewing distances. You'd have to sit closer than 8 feet, and more like 5 feet, for 1080p to be noticable, and most people don't sit/lay down this close to watch.
