Default Is the Best Buy Blu-ray demo disc enhanced?

Just got back from my local Best Buy. For fun I was watching one of the Blu-Ray demo disks on a Sony LCD. Anyway, the disk was obviously a promo thing for Blu-Ray, showing various movie clips and sound demo's.

What shocked me though was the clarity of the movie clips they showed, particularly from Spiderman 3 and Pirates 2. I've seen both of these movies on Blu-Ray on my PS3, but the differences between the full length features and these clips were remarkable. The details and color in these clips was almost overwhelming, better than any HD broadcast I've seen. Now my TV at home is only 720p but I didn't think the difference between 720p and 1080p was supposed to THAT drastic.

So my question is this: Is this Demo-disk using some uncompressed version of these films for the short demo clips? Will there be a format one day that allows regular blu-rays to have these uncompressed versions?

It may have been on one of those 120 hz. tv's that makes things look kinda fake. But I doubt the reason for it looking better is the disc, it's most likely the tv, or the tv's settings.

Really, that Motion Enhancer adds all that detail?

Not detail, but the surreal look. The XBRs are pretty solid TVs as far as detail.

My first thought was that he was talking about 120hz Motion Flow as well. Most likely on that Sony they always like to show that disc on.

It IS gorgeous...

In my OPINION, 720p to 1080P is a big difference in the real world (your home) environment. I recently upgraded from a 1080I XBR to a 1080P XBR and was very pleased with what my eyes perceived as a substantial improvement.

I agree. The fact that the display TV was 1080p was a big part of the visual quality upgrade.

I have their demo disc, and I used it on my first TV, at 720p. Could see a difference in their side-by-side shots (like the Knight's Tale, Kingdom of Heaven). But it was very slight.

When I finally got my new TV, of 1080p, the demo disc did wonders, and really showed off the difference. There may have been other differences, but the major one was probably going to 1080p.

720p will still give you a good picture, but going to 1080p will give you a huge jump. That's likely the difference you were seeing, it's what I saw with my copy of the Best Buy demo disc.

What you saw was not due to the disc or player.. but the awesomeness of the best TV manufacturer in the world (Sony) and thier unbelievable Motionflow 120hz goodness..

I attest to the detail and "flow" with my 60A3000 motionflow Sony..

When I look at the demo, I see compression, blown highlights, blocked shadows, and too much contrast.
They do that to make it "pop" more. The compression is minor but I see it.
These demos always use non-calbrated TVs, and pump up the contrast the saturation to make the image look more vibrant and "3D" to the customer.

Nothing special about the disk just demo stuff, I swipped one with the Batman Begins demo on it and it looks great just like at the store. Of course at the store they were using a Sammy 5000.

I may be alone in feeling this way but I am not a fan of the way the Motion Enhancer makes the movies look. Sure they look more fluid, but don't look like film and it is not the director's intent for a movie to look like that.

I liken it to if you ever watch a behind the scenes and they show actors doing a scene and there is a more of a you are there feel, but when you see the finish product it has film look to it. To me the Motion Enhancer just creates a weird look to me. It looks good don't get me wrong but as one poster said it creates a surreal look and that to me isn't the director's intent.

again I could be alone in this.
