thinking about getting directv hd - Blu-ray Forum

before I make my decision is there any news that they will be releasing an hd box that plays 1080p? I dont want to buy the hd reciever than 3 months later a better one comes out.

i havent heard of a 1080p box release and dont expect to this year being that not all channels are in hd yet let alone in 1080p.

I called them up about a week ago and asked them if they were going to have any new equipment out sometime soon. All they told me was they have no info on it and don't think so. I dont think 1080p will be a standard for cable or anything so 1080i it will be for a while. You will love HD on directv though. it is an awesome picture.

You won't get 1080p anytime soon,we are stuck with 1080i for the time being.I have Direct TV HD and I have no problem's with it.They do have a good selection of HD channels.

Not to my knowledge they aren't releasing a 1080p box. A buddy of mine works there and he stated it would need to involve a major hardward upgrade, probably something to do with the satelites before we see 1080p. Makes sense, since 1080p would require a faster bandwidth to work. But 1080i is the best it's going to be for a little while.

DIRECTV HD service is awesome! No degregation in signal...It's a beautiful thing.

only way to go is DTV...No 1080p for at least a year or so...

Don't buy a receiver, lease one. I don't see 1080p sat or cable service any time soon if ever.
