HD directv

i have directv and i want to get hd directv since i now have an hdtv. i already have all my packages and channels i want on the other reciever. i went on the directv website and it said that if i get hd it will upgrade for the money. will it upgrade all the channels i have that are avalable in hd to hd without me telling them which ones, or do i have to tell them the ones i want??

its all depends on your package. for example, not every channel has a hd counterpart.. lets say you have the basic package. that basic packages has tnt, tbs, espn, etc etc. those channels will be in hd. a channel like mtv doesnt have a hd counterpart, then you'll just get the regular channel. now this is where its tricky, direct tv doesnt carry every local channel in hd. you have to check with them. also, i believe its more money for them.

thats one reason why i choose cable over satellite. its cheaper. although it has less channels, i wont be watching every single channel in hd.im pretty sure you upgraded the hd box, and your dish on the roof to a 5 LNB model?

To get all the HD channels directv has to offer minus the premiums it will cost you about $15/month extra. If you subscribe to HBO, Showtime or or a sports those will be included. The local channels will not cost you extra in HD... Its $9.99/month for HD and then like $5/month for the HD extra pack which is about 5-10 channels
