Default I need some advice on DirecTv

I have Time Warner here (So Cal) and I am really disappointed in their service. I am considering switching to DirecTv. I just wanted to know if anyone has DirecTv as their provider and if you guys like them. Positive and negative feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I just realized that I missed spelled some in the title, needed to say 'some advice' sorry. Mods if you can change that, it would be great.

We used to have TWC (Oceanic Cable) and Dish Network.

TWC sucks, and they have tons of problems with outages all the time (seems to be due to old wiring)... also the DVR was not the best thing. On top of that there are not really a whole lot of HD channels they offer and the price of $120+ a month for premium service is not worth it at all.

Dish Network was a lot cheaper ($80 for 2 room setups - 1 DVR, 1 regular box).
The picture quality was a lot better, if the weather was good. I mean we live in Hawaii and have great weather 300+ days a year, but when it gets really windy (which happens a lot in the area where we live) or starts to rain pretty hard, the picture quality differs from just being bad, to full on outages.
The DVR had a smaller capacity than TWC, but was more customizable. HD channel packages were also a lot more than cable.

A friend of mine has DirecTV for a few years already and loves it. The line-up and quality are pretty much the same of Dish Network. The only big advantage I see for DirecTV is that they offer more foreign channels, and a lot more sports packages!

At the moment we canceled all tv services as we never really watch it anyways.

I've been with Directv for many years now. For the programming choices, A/V quality and price I'm very satisfied.

After having had cable from several different companies, and now having had DirecTV for almost 5 years, I would never go back. Yes, the weather can affect the signal, but that happens much less frequently than cable outages used to happen. Hold times on the phone with customer service, if any, are never less than a coule of minutes, and I have yet to have a problem I could not resolve over the phone.

And if you like sports on television, there is no equal.

We had DirecTV for a couple years (until my dad stopped paying the bill ><) and it rocked. I actually never had it go out, unlike our current Comcast digital cable.

Got DirecTV for the NFL package about 6 years ago, and I can't imagine ever going back to cable.

Good programming line-up, good customer service, the best website of any utility/services company I've probably ever seen. The OnDemand service has a lot of selection, but I think the layout needs a drastic overhaul.

I've had directv for over three years now and could'nt be happier, would never ever go back to cable. I pay a lot amonth but also have a sick package so it evens out. If you do call them play the back and forth game with them by saying that you called dish network and they are offering a better deal, don't let up until you get at least a free hddvr and around 6 months of hbo , showtime , cinemax or all of the above. Directv is very competitve with dish and will give good deals if you play the game right!!!!!!!!!Espeacially with new/potential new customers. Also if you say you were refeered by a "friend" with directv you save $50 and the other person saves $50 , PM me if you want to do that!!!!

Well I think you guys just helped me make my switch. I just got off the phone with TWC and they said my monthly bill will be going up 30 dollars !! so it will be from 172 to 202 All I can say is good riddance. Well I am glad that you guys like DirecTv. I was thinking of getting the 80 something dollar package which includes all the movie channels and sports pkg. Does anyone have that package?

In So Cal as well and have Directv. Had it now for 5-6 years. It's been good but have issues now and again with sound going out and coming back same with picture. Not sure if it's weather based or not and, happens on all of my TV's so it is not a case of wiring etc. Anyway, the only other issue I've had is that on occasion, there updates trigger a restart of the unit or turn it off. The issue this has caused is programs that were meant to record on the DVR have not. Customer service is very good though. When I've had problems they usually do something to rectify it wether it is credit or free movie channels for a couple of months.

I dropped DirecTV when I got a HDTV because they didn't have the stock of boxes available for HD-DVR and their compression method was changing with new satellite launches so I didn't want to spend the money on the set-up only to have to replace it.

With that said, my wife and I are looking into ways of scaling back...Comcast looks like it is going to get kicked to the curb along with their phone service. I will be getting a $3/month local only service from Verizon only because I need the phone for the alarm...other than that, cell phone would rule.

I have to say that I am impressed with the Directv HD selection and their compressions are no where near as bad as cable has become over the last 3-4 months.

The only thing that would prevent me from going to Directv is Fios...if they would only run the cabling already (I've been waiting 2 years or maybe longer now...) and that is only because Comcast has a strangle hold on the Phillies home games and won't allow Directv to broadcast them.
