Aygie needs a new player and Drive - opinions please! - Blu-ray Forum

Hey guys

Its my Dads birthday on the 24th and i'm thinking about getting him a player, me i've had my trusty PS3 since day one (live in the UK by the way) but i dont think thats really his cup of tea. I need to get him a nice stand alone.

Now, no BD live (i dont think he'll give a crap about that) but profile 1.1 yeah why not. At the moment theres some good prices in the UK (http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...archtype=genre) and i get 10% discount at play too which is great. So which is the best of the bunch? I'm looking at the Sony BDPS300 (good price + 4 free movies =

)

Is it Profile 1.1? (i know im being lazy but this is my home so i'd rather discuss it here than fanny about the net

)

His setup is 1080i TV (yeah i know), Denon 1906 Amp and 5.1 Speakers.

What do you think?

Oh and for me i need a BD drive for my mac (it'll be on XP running boot camp) any ideas?

The only player that's profile 1.1 on that website is the BD30.
It's a great player and loads discs quickly as well.
(Amazon.uk has it cheaper to than that other website.)

Those other players are 1.0 profile players.
Stay away from the S300. Can't speak for the BD10 or S500 though.

The Samsung BD-P1400 is a decent player but load time is pretty slow.
It's also only profile 1.0.

The Sharp BD20 is also only a Profile 1.0 player.

There are some new Magnavox, Funai, Samsung(BD-P1500) and Philips players that are profile 1.1 players that recently hit the market that have been getting some good reviews on PQ and fast load times.
You might want to see if you can locate one of those.
