Default Player opinions wanted

I think I remeber seeing this kind of thread before some where but I had no luck in locating it again. I currently have a Samsung BD-P1400. And for the most part I am pleased wiht it. Hoever Ive heard about other systems too. BNasically what I want to know is this out of the many players that are out there, Samsung,, sony, magnavox, and many many more out there. Out of my fellow bluray freaks out there. What is your perfered system system, meaning what player do yuo all think is the best for the money.

some key things I'm looking at is
1. cost
2. features
3. loading speed
4. customer support
5. Anything else you all can think of

And lastly If ythis thread is outt here instead of slmaming me for it just give me the link so I can look at it for my self. If not then I hope this thread helps others out there looking for advise too.

In order for us to advise you, we'll need a bit more information:

What features are important to you? e.g. decoding of lossless codecs or bitstream, HDMI or analog, 5.1 or 7.1 etc.

What's your other gear, especially what AVR will you be using?

While I agree that the PS3 is the schiz, there are some consumers that it doesn't fit. Care about noise? Multi-room? Multi-room control? Heat? What Video/Audio processor do you use or plan to grow to? Pre-amps? Amps? Taste for quality? Want to play with upscaling on color-depth? What display do you use and where are you going.

My first rule is try not to spend long term $$$$$$$$$$ twice.

PS3 hands down. If you want to play games, thats a bonus. It is a BD player first. The wireless internet hook is grate for upgrades. You just tell it to go get them, and it does all the work. PQ is first rate. Get the remote, it's worth the extra.

+1, convinced my father of it's potential and he never looked back. it was the first step in his HD theatre, he doesn't use it for games at all. best bang for your buck.

Best value for money... hard to beat the PS3.

The Sony BDP-S350 is my pick for best standalone for the money, though -- especially once the upcoming price cut is put into effect.

Yes thank you thats what I was referring to (sorry for not stating it faster) I do mean standalone players. I never plan on getting a PS3 mainly I feel they are a waist of money unless you are into gaming as well. ( don't freaking slam me for my opinon thats why we post on here its our opinion) Anyway, I was refering to stand onle players only so if any one has a good itdea of what a good player (meaning) a player that has the least issuyes wiht it and the best bang for the buck .

My advice on a good stand alone would be the Sony S350...cost wise its pretty good, good features I can't comment on the load speed I didn't get mine as yet, Sony customer support is excellent.

I've always been a heavy supporter of the Panasonic Blu-ray players, the 10 and 30 were solid products - the 50 is a little expensive though, and I think the Sony S350 has caught up with the Panasonic 50.

PS3 waste of money? even if you dont play games - its still hard to beat. My daughter and Wife are always using MY laptop, but you know what? I can browse the internet on my PS3 on my 65 inch TV. So they can go ahead and use my tiny laptop. LOL. Plus you can store pictures, videos and music on it. oh and chat and send and rcv mssgs like email on it. Which stand alone does all this? and if there was one that did, it would probably cost $2000

I'll tell you what I know, not what I assume about Samsung players. I have gone through the BD-P1200, 1400, 1500 and now have the 2550, and I will say without hesitation that Samsung has finally put themselves on top of the pile with the BD-P2550.

The 1200 was a piece of crap, the 1400 has the HQV chip but aesthetically didn't do it for me, the 1500 looks great but does not have the HQV chip (gay) and the 2550 has the HQV chip, is 2.0 compliant with a FW release (1.1 compliant out of the box), decodes all audio codecs (with proper receiver) and looks fantastic.

I just hooked up my system the other day and it is working wonderfully. The BD-P2550 works flawlessly and the Onkyo TX SR705 decodes everything perfectly. I had a Bose Lifestyle 35 before this set-up and I had to run an optical cable to get audio. I had so many audio drops and hiccups it was unbelievable. I can attest to this, it will be your receiver, or the lack thereof, that creates all your issues. Granted, Samsung put out some crappy players, but so have most manufacturers, and because of that, it hasn't helped people with there issues. However, considering I have had 4 of their players, and keep the 1500 in the master br and the 2550 in the media room, I can tell you that Samsung has hit it out of the park with their latest endeavor.

I don't get offended when people bash Samsung, or any manufacturer for that matter. I don't have any vested interest in any manufacture other than my retail investment. I just get disgusted with people that continue to whine about their issues and beat it into the ground on these forums. Be a part of the solution and make a choice. Buy a Samsung that works for you, or go buy a BDP that will. But stop playing the same broken record here that everyone gets sick of listening to. Sounds like many other options than a Samsung out there that can satisfy one's taste.

My grand dad used to say to me when I was young (I'm 45 now)... "Boy, fisherman's luck is a wet butt and a hungry gut". What that says to me today is that sometimes it's more about the fishing than catching the fish. You're not always going to catch fish, so you need to keep fishing.

Exactly what I was thinking? How is it a waste of money when you are spending less on a unit that has equal functionality and then some? You'd be surprised at how many people will reluctantly buy the PS3 because of the same reasons that were stated in the first quote above and end up finding at least 3 or 4 other PS3 functions to use. It's a silly statement to say that something is a "waste of money" when it's actually an "insane consumer bargain."
