Question No onkyo's in Canada?!!

I located an ebay seller and he said he does ship to Canada, but when I expressed my interest in the onkyo 605 he said "sorry, no onkyos in canada, they wont allow it"

do they no longer ship onkyos into canada? or is this guy just putting me off?

EDIT: should this be moved to receiver discussion?

he replied and said onkyo usa changed their policy in december and retailers can't ship onkyos here

could it be because in the states they sell them for 300 and they want us canadians to pay upwards of 700 like suckers?

ya, i've seen them here in canada (the 605 is around 649.99 from authorized dealers) so could it just be that this guy can't send them here for that kind of price? (he's selling it for 319.99)

Probably. I know that Visions sells Onkyo, but they are more expensive than in the states. Probably just another cash grab to screw-over Canadians.

Maybe something to all that since amazon won't ship them to Canada, either.

If you want Onkyo in Canada, they want you to by from an authorized Canadian dealer. They don't want US retailers sending them here and the warranty is void if you buy it is the US and bring it across the border. I have heard that some Canadian dealers are willing to negotiate the price a bit though.

Of course... Some self-sarcasm is always good for the soul...

(Maybe we should start a thread like "I am with _____ prices in Canada!!" )

I got the 805 while I was travelling through the U.S. and it was a DUD. Because I purchased it in the U.S. the Onkyo customer service kept telling me that there was nothing that they could do. My only option, according to them, was to drive 18 hours back to where I bought it and exchange the unit. The instant I purchased the unit in the U.S. while having a Canadian residency address, my warranty was void. They told me that they were sorry I had thrown away $800 (at the time the Onkyo 805 in Canada was $1500).

I was desperate enough to try and contact the location I purchased it from. So, I called VANN'S and started to explain the situation. Before I could even finish explaining, the sales guy that sold it to me asked for my new address so that he could ship a return label to me for exchange.

That thoroughly impressed me because the shipping cost of TWO units (defective back to them and the new unit to me) across the border would have totaled almost as much as the price that I paid for the unit in the first place. Thus, they not only sacrificed their profit margin, but most likely lost money on the sale. However, they instantly were willing to look beyond the voided warranty due to address and satisfy their customer.

So, that's probably why Onkyo has stipulated "no shipping to Canada." they want to protect their outrageous Canadian pricing by enforcing the warranty B.S.

Amazon.com won't ship anything other than books, DVD's and/or CD's outside the US, it's not a brand, or even country specific policy.

2001 Audio Video carries Onkyo: http://www.2001audiovideo.com/catego...ory_id=47&clr=

I'm sure there's other too if, as everyone else has pointed out, you're willing to pay the outrageous markups.

Actually, there are subtle differences in the manufacturing of electronics for each country. There are laws in each country about electronic equipment that requires subtle difference between the models in order to meet regulation requirements.

But, don't take this as a justification for the price difference. I do not condone what Onkyo is doing with this situation. I just wanted to inform you about the fact that they technically DO make "a U.S. Onkyo and a Canadian Onkyo".

Sorry to hear about your 805. I bought a 905 when they first came out and I recall that with shipping to my door, it cost me around 1400. Its still alive and kicking even tho I think ... Visions is a rip off tho

JR.com wont ship Onkyo products to Canada either, and they do actually ship large electronics to canada. Thats where I bought my receiver/speakers

You can only buy from certified dealers in your own country. I agree that it totally blows since retail prices for onkyos here are disgusting.

London drugs and visions sell onkyos, theres also a local store here in calgary that does. But the prices are complete crap compared to US online merchants. So regardless of the quality, I wasnt gonna give onkyo canada the satisfaction of screwing me over on price.

I purchased my 875 in Canada from http://www.electronicsforless.ca/ . They are physically located in Toronto (Markham area), but they ship Canada wide for a reasonable price. Customer service was friendly IMHO.

There's an electronic place in hull/gatineau that sell Onkyo products. Quite a good selection they have too.
