61" or 70" 1080p

Anyone running the JVC HD70FH97?? Wondering what is the closest in terms of distance you can get away with in sitting from a 61" and/or 70" 1080p?? Oh and my viewing preference is to be immersed in the movie experience. Logic would say the bigger the screen and the higher the "p" the closer you can get. I noticed the viewing chart in the sticky goes up to 1080i, which is what I have right now.

It all depends on your distance. I have a 47" and sit 9' away. I need atleast a 60' Although with all the lights out and a good movie I can get immersed.

Get the biggest possible within budget. If you get the 61, you'll be wishing you got the 70.

65" is probably the largest you want an RPTV

Any bigger and it's probably a better investment/use of space to go with a projector. For the same money you could probably go 100"

You don't want to get too large of a TV if you're getting rear-projection. I've noticed with my 73" that the picture tends to be soft compared to the 60" I had before. Don't get me wrong I love my TV, just food for thought.

I hear you. Right now I have 56" & sit 8 feet away. The distance would be something that is not changeable. I have a chance to possibly sell my current 1080i and set up to a bigger 1080p.

Thanks - I just was noticing this actually. I think in terms of "deals' right now the best price point range is that 61" $1600ish area. Its amazing how much the price jumps stepping up to 70". The only issue with the projector though is that my viewing distance is a tad under 8FT, so I am not so sure what a 100+ inch screen would look like from that view. Its kind of like the law of marginal returns where you can only eat so many peanut butter jelly sandwiches before you stop getting any satisfaction out of them for your hunger. There has to be a point where too big of a screen too close is not going to be fun??? Unless of course a person is able to sit in the 1st 5 rows of a movie theatre, then clearly this would not be an issue.

That is a great point. Kind of the reason why I am in the boat I am right now. The price point of the 61" is incredible these days in terms of a "deal." I am thinking this might be the most practical for me in terms of budget and viewing distance.

I appreciate you sharing this. Thank you. I think the 61" is going to be unbeatable in terms of my budget and viewing distance. Do you mind me asking what your viewing distance is??

My viewing distance is right about 10', I'm actually considering getting a smaller set myself right now.

The only issue with the projector though is that my viewing distance is a tad under 8FT, so I am not so sure what a 100+ inch screen would look like from that view

yeah, 100+ would be pushing it (less then 1.1) but then again with a projector you can always shrink the size of the image by either using the zooming or installing the projector closer.

PS don't forget TVs are measured in diagonal while projected images in width

Good point, the diagonal vs. width factor is something I overlooked.
