Default Lossless question...

I'm thinking about getting a new receiver. We usually don't get to watch movies until our 2 year old goes to bed and we have an old house where loud sounds go EVERYWHERE. My question is: Would I be able to tell much a difference in the sound quality upgrade if we have to watch movies at a lower volume. I personally can't tell the difference between mp3s that are ripped at a 360 bit rate and CDs at the volume we would have to play our movies. I do have a keen ear and can usually tell the difference when we get a chance to play them louder. Thanks ahead of time for any help.
