Default Is this a good deal on a subwoofer?

My local craigs list has a M&K MX90 subwoofer for $350. It looks like a beast and seems to be in good shape.

If I were you, I would try to see if you can go and listen to it for yourself. $350 is a lot of coin for a used subwoofer. Find out how old it is too, as there may not be a manufacturer warranty left on it. If the sub goes bad you are out $350. Try looking around online and at local shops as well.

if it's in good shape, it's a 'decent' deal... I think they were about $900 new.

I'd negotiate though.... and if it doesn't look like it's been cared for properly, I probably wouldn't bother, and I'd shop Audiogon etc.

Audiogon? Is that a website?
Been trying to hold off on buying a sub till July when the av123.com MFW-15 is back in stock. Seems like alot of sub for $599.

audiogon is definitely a great place to purchase some good ol fashion material, but id rather stick to them for electronic separates. shipping aint gonna be cheap when you buy it from across the country.

save up your money, and consider purchasing a brand new sub instead. consider two months more of savings or about 200 clams more and you can satisfy your low end frequencies with this.

I think the AV123.com MFW-15 is rated up there with the SVS cylinder type subs for about half the price. I know someone on here recommended this sub to me, but would like to hear from people who actually own one or have heard one.
Seems the best bang for the buck in the sub department. Just having a hard time waiting till they're back in stock.

$350? I paid less than that for a brand new 800 watt Infinity PS212 from Amazon. The M&K MX90 has got just about the best response range you can find, but it is definitely overpriced, especially for the comparatively low power output. The same money buys a more powerful, equally dynamic Velodyne sub.

Also keep in mind your safety, Here in Washington King county area, the local Craigslist has turned into a rob and or assault deal. Too many bad stories I don't bother to sell or buy anymore. Its a shame too because you can find some really great deals there.

Really? $350 will get me a comparable 2x12" Velodyne sub?

I'd argue that the M&K sub is sonically better on all levels, but if you just want to recite spec-sheets, sure, there are other 'comparable' things out there......

I'd get it.... have him send you lots of pictures, check out the pictures (not for the sub, but for his home furnishings, etc.) and if you get an address to go listen to it, check out the house on Zillow.com or check your local county auditor's website, and check the buyer info (if he owns the house he's in, you can find out how long ago he bought it, how much etc,) and if he rents etc... you can check the address on Zillow to find out the approximate value of the house, and the neighbor's houses.... not saying someone in a 1/2 Mil. house won't rob you.... but your odds are better that they won't, don't you think

Yeah, I always figured there was a chance for shady dealings, so i usually bring one of my buddies and try to meet in a open, public place. Kinda makes it hard to audition speakers when you're in a strip mall parking lot though.
I've just convinced myself to wait and buy new. Congrats

that's pretty cool info Beta Man and just when i'd convinced myself not to get it. Still haven't heard back from the seller though. Someone else might've already grabbed it.
Our "tastes" seem to be similar, so what do you think of the MFW-15 at av123.com?

My friend, who is a high end audio entheusiest, has 2 of those MFW-15’s on order. He tells me this is the best subwoofer for the money. He mentioned that the guy who designed the MFW-15 is very well known in the industry.

Comes in handy when house shopping gotta find out how much the Neighbor's houses are going for (you don't want the most expensive house on the cheapest block.... you want the cheapest house on the most expensive block ) and you can find out when/what the person who's selling the house bought it for..... helps you find out how much they have vested in the house, and gives you a good idea of what to offer (some people are unrealistic about their asking price though..... this is a buyer's market..... )

Back on topic..... check out the seller carefully, maybe even ask for a number (if you see enough "safe" pictures etc) and tell him you'll call to set up a time to go to his place to listen to it, and feel him out on the phone too...... I sold ONE THING on craigslist, and it was scary, but it all worked out...... I suggest walking away if ANYTHING seems phishy about the deal

Can you build a box? How about DIY.

http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=414

is an example where all you need is the box and a little time. Based on the NHT1259 driver technology.....

central standard time actually.

Got it for 500 clams and i believe it was worth every penny. Not a scratch on it and the sound is amazing. The seller just demo'd it with some music, so i haven't done any bluray tests yet, but he had some hiphop playing and the bass was devastating. Clear and deep. Can't wait till my system is complete.
thanks for the help and suggestions, especially Mr. Beta Man.
