Sorry about the typos in the title. hahaha..it is kinda cute, though.
Ok, please help me decide. I have been a bit through the ringer. Of these three players, which would you pair with my set up? Mag NB500G9--298.00 Sammy BDP 1500--348.00 Sony BDPS300 ---388.00 My set up THUS FAR: Sammy LN37A550 37 inch HDTV with 1080p Marantz SR-66 Receiver 5.1 DOlby pro Logic (no optical out, no HDMI outs) (I know, it is ancient---not upgrading soon). I have Dish Network but too many trees to get a consistent HD signal. SO I will be relying on the BD Player for my HD needs. No set top box. Thank you SO much for the help. |

Definatley not the Sony. Very, very slow machine to power on and load and no resume playback. Go with the Sammy instead...... |

I would to go with the PS3. The Sony BDPS300 is a good stand alone player, however it is sooo dam slow!! I kid you not it will take as much as three minutes just to get the movie going. The PS3 is as fast as a DVD player. Wait till the 8th and get the $100 gift card.

Although if you get it now, you can probably bring in your receipt and get the $100 giftcard in a couple of weeks anyway. And you won't have to risk not getting one that week.

Will my other components (namely my dish receiver) sit flat on top of the Ps3? I thought I noticed it had a curved top. I don't have any other place to put the PS3 except under my Dish receiver.
The dish receiver could go inderneath the PS3, but it looks as though the Dish receiver needs a lot of ventilation as the entire top is vented. ALSO, does the PS3 output a 1080p signal? |

If you're not gaming go with the Sammy 1500. Solid stand alone, I have it along with a 1400, and you won't be disappointed. It's quiet and doesn't heat your room like a PS3.

No, you cannot sit something flat on a PS3. It needs to be well ventilated anyway.

And no, you can't put anything on top of the PS3 since it has a curved top. It also needs a lot of ventalating room to exhaust the tremendous amount of heat it emits. You also get no remote so you'll have to use the game controller. If you want to use a universal IR remote, then you need to buy a special adapter for around $50 as well. Not sure if it's a concern but does your current receiver accept optical or coax inputs ? If not, the PS3 has no 5.1 analog audio outputs nor does it output high bitstream audio, which you can utilize with an 805 with other stand alone blu-ray players. Also keep in mind that the PS3 uses 'pinch rollers' to grab the disc from your hand to get the disc into the player since it does not have a disc tray. Looks like the Sammy wins it.
Thank you all SO much for the help! I'll be back in about 2 hours with lots of hook up questions! ![]() I am assuming HDMI hook up to TV, right? |

Yes, I guess I do need a stand alone. Not real sure what that means, but the PS3 is logistically a problem in my rack.

PS3 hands down. I would wait to see if you can score one of thoes deals on the PS3, then if not go with the Sammy or the Sony. I would steer clear of the Magnavox until their reliabilty can be determined.
Of course based on your setup the PS3 would not be a good option since you have no HDMI or optical on your receiver...that is if you want to use your current 5.1 setup. Last edited by Zaphod; 05-28-2008 at 07:04 PM. |

Any last things I may need? I have to drive 35 minutes to town...I am going to get an HDMI cable to run from the Sammy to the HDTV.
My marantz is running audio out of my tv...gonna leave that alone. Anything else I need to consider? I am going to be finally watching some HD tonight come hell or high water!!! |

Just be aware that there might be a slight audio delay between you TV audio and receiver. So, you might want to turn down the TV volume while watching movies and let the receiver be the only audio source heard.
