Default So why do we love film anyway?

For me, I love the message first and foremost, and secondly, the escape into another world (llike reading a fantastic novel).

So quality is paramount for me as the other world I want to escape into is all the better with higher quality.

Why do you love film? And isn't that why we are all here anyway?

Indeed! I cannot stand the movie theater because people basically suck!

Well, I mean really, they are rude and loud and aggravating.

It's a good thing I am personally very cool.

They are very rude, is it so hard not to kick the seat infront of you?!
They sell food at the theater that is way loud when being chewed
They charge you an arm and a leg for everything

Best solution was Home Theater

My time, my place, my choice, my theater.

Love it!

And I make sure to serve my guests soft foods. As in Brie and other gourmet cheeses and wines...No crunching!

GET ON TOPIC. It's now about why you love your home theater setup.

For me, it's because movies entertain and demonstrate that whoever, wherever and whenever we are, we are human beings.

You can get your troubles, worries or what not out of the way during a movie. Also, those really well made ones not only bring you to a special place, they also show you what beauties this world has to offer.

Oh hell, when I went to go see Indy 4 (which is the first time I've been to a theater in a long time) during the trailers this stupid effin' kid behind me kept saying "Is this Indiana Jones?" EVERY 5 SECONDS!!! Then during the movie he kept saying "I think this is Indiana Jones." Then when there was a quiet part in the movie he would randomly hum the theme song. Oh and then whoever was sitting behind me kicked my chair like 3 times. I felt like punching that little kid in his stupid little face, and then slapping his mother for not bothering to shut him up. Now I know why I haven't been to the theater in a long time.

I guess part of the attraction for me is because when I was a kid (about 12 or 13 years old) my parents got divorced and our family collapsed. I use to escape into books and movies. Movies were a way for me to glimpse a world where great and terrible things were possible. At the end of the two or so hours, you could walk out of the theater feeling like you had had some kind of meaningful experience.
Years later, I have now graduated from college with a degree in English and American Literature, and film has become the great para-text for me. You're able to see the state of your society by looking critically at the movies and literature of the time. It's also interesting to see the way literature is translated to film.
In the end I guess I still escape into film to be entertained and moved. It's unfortunate that there aren't more quality films released nowadays, but if you look hard enough the good films are still out there. I now have the luxury of owning all this HD equipment that makes the movie experience that much better. Besides, I just can't resist a good movie!

Thanks for all these great responses and honest self reflections.

Another reason why I love film; we can look at ourselves and others with a different perspective.

I guess I was lucky. My dad used to take me to movies a lot when I was younger. We had more fun than I can even explain. So, I just grew up loving movies, and going to drive-ins and the like. I have my dad to thank.

This is not an easy subject because people like it for different reasons. I love it because it can take you to fantastial, scary action packed place. Books can do that also but I am a audio and visual learner, while learning does not have a lot to do with movies it would help explain my preference towards them.

Movies can put you in situations you yourself would sometimes shudder going into. I mean I would not like to fight the Queen at the end of Aliens but I find it positivly exilerating to watch.

Another reason I find film the best entertaiment medium for me, is the audio component of film. Would Jaws be Jaws without the film score not to me it wouldn't, I know it was a book also. I liked Black Hawk Down more as a film because I found the book confusing. Ridley Scott was able to take one of the biggest military debocals of the 90's and make it crystal clear to the audience.

Blu-ray is the next best thing we have to the Matrix. When we hit record, we time shift. When we hit play, we can time warp an entire lifetime into two hours - it's great.

100% escapism. I love to completly lose myself in a movie and just forget that life exists for a couple hours.
