Good speaker, I've demo'd them before - no complaints whatsoever with me. Nice sound.

For about the same money ( probably $50-$100 more for the pair) you can get the 684's, which, In my opinion are FAR better. The 600 series incorporated a lot of the higher-model design elements, and they're now part of the "produced in China" line from B&W which brings the cost down a lot. Since the price is almost identical, I'd certainly audition them side-by-side if nothing else, but they honestly are about the only thing right now that causes slight buyer's remorse for me, since I got 700's (The 600's are just an awesome value for the price)

I"ve had a pair of 603's for a while, and have loved every minute of them!

i love b&w speakers. in my sig you can see what i have.

i have demoed these. if you want bass, go somewhere else. while not their best, they do produce a pretty true sound field as long as you are driving them with good equipment. they can be a bit "shrill" but it has a lot more to do with what is driving them vs a characteristic of the speaker.

i haven't done a ton of speaker research recently, back when i bought mine these were one of the best bangs for the buck... if b&w has held true, they prob still are

are you getting these from a local shop, or are you looking at audiogon etc? I'd say it's in your best interest to go to a shop and compare them with other speakers.

I auditioned a set of B&W 600 series a few years ago when i was in the market. They were ok but i found them lacking midrange and shrill in the highs with average bass response, i bought JM Labs as they were clearly better speakers and a little less money to boot. I recently have done a fair bit of listening to their speakers, 600, 700 and 800 series and my opinions were the same now as then so i would say that must be the B&W house sound, you need to get into the 800 series to get really good speakers, less than that and you can get cheaper speakers that will outperform them.

It always strikes me as funny how much different people's opinions are on various speaker manufacturers.

Sound is so subjective, call me kooky but I think it is cool.

I like what I got, in the price range I was looking for.... I auditioned a lot of different speakers.

OP.... What did the speakers end up going for, and how high were you willing to bid? I'd stay away from buying speakers via ebay, but that's just me!

I've had a pair of smaller B&W's on my "music only" system for years, and they are fantastic speakers.

I agree with Beta in avoiding ebay for speakers like this. New in the box with warranty is the only way to go. Never know what someone did with them.

Plus.... I've had three tweeters "poked" out of mine (sad story... trust me) and they were all taken care of by my dealer for FREE......

The replacement tweeters for my speakers are about $100+ each....

If I bought them via ebay, I'd be out an extra $300 or so right now.

Default B&W surrounds

do the 603's come in surround/bookshelf sizes as well?
I believe my room can handle a 7.1 setup as long as the side and back surrounds are pretty small. I have klipsch RF-25 fronts and klipsch RC-52 center (got all three for $325). So i need 4 speakers and i'm not really sure i care about price.
They need to be small, but awesome sounding.

There was a whole 6 series. The smaller ones were the 600, 601, and they had a larger bookshelf called the 602. They also has a dipole surround speaker. I think it was called the DM6. They don't make that series anymore, but you can find some used ones on the web. I think they are great speakers, it's hard to find a B & W speaker that doesn't sound good.

Having owned a pair of N802s for four years, I upgraded to 802D last yr. There is no way the new diamond models are "the same now as then". They may look similar, but top-to-bottom integration is significantly better, new crossovers and electronics in the plinth, more articulate treble and taller, bigger soundstaging. I loved the N802, but it was improved upon in every way. Much to the detriment of my bank account.
