Default Favorite "Indie" Band

Mine would be Modest Mouse, even though they aren't technically indie anymore.

I have DCFC's Narrow Stairs coming in the mail, that album has been reviewed really well and I can't wait to get it. I have tickets to see Modest Mouse in July, and I just saw Radiohead a couple weeks ago. I love Coldplay too, but I am not sure they are really indie so I will leave them out. My favorites list probably goes something like this.

1. Modest Mouse
2. Sufjan Stevens
3. Radiohead
4. Death Cab for Cutie
5. The Shins
6. The Postal Service
7. Iron and Wine
8. The Flaming Lips
9. Pixies
10. Ben Folds
11. Wilco
12. Spoon
13. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
14. The New Pornographers
15. The Decemberists
16. Bright Eyes
17. Arcade Fire
18. Jack Johnson
19. The Polyphonic Spree
20. Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Oh, and if you have Sirius listen to Left of Center (Channel 26)!!!!

I think this film is considered as an Indie, although it has a much bigger budget than most. It is certainly one of my favs

Rather than debating the merits on what constitutes Indie, here's my favs:

-Alkaline Trio
-Thrice
-Rilo Kiley (or anything Jenny Lewis related, i.e. Postal Service or Watson Twins)
- Mindless Self Indulgence
- Tapes N Tapes
- Polar Bear Club
- Fugazi
- Minus The Bear
- M83

I try to find a way to work Peter Cetera era Chicago into every music list as the best, but even I'm stretching it to classify that anywhere near Indie.

Death Cab's Cd was a terrible disappointment to me, but then again, I like their older songs much more than their new, so it was a trend.

I don't agree. I thought most of their "Absolution" album was quite good, especially "Apocalypse Please"

I also like:

LetterKills
The Almost
Finch
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (though I don't think they're "indie" anymore)
