Does Wal-mart's online "site to store" feature work like Best Buy? If the local Wal-mart has a copy of the movie in-stock and I place a site to store order, will they grab it off the shelf or do I have to wait for them to get a new one shipped to them?
Thanks! |

I believe you have to pay for them to ship it to you. they will ship it to the store for free for you to pick up. Hence the name - Site to Store.

Yeah I wish it worked that way...they don't pick it off the shelf because the order is shipped to the store from the distribution center, hence "Site to Store". The store doesn't receive anything on the order until it has been shipped from the distribution center giving them a heads up to look out for it and not put it with the regular inventory.

No need to apologize...and you are 100% correct. I think that it is stupid that they don't pull it if it is in the stores inventory. It must be a logistics issue.

I work at Wal-mart and actually have to work in the Site to Store at times.
I have also unloaded trucks to help out from time to time. Site to Store items come shipped with a orange label. They are mixed in with all the other freight that comes off the trucks. The orange label helps flag the item so the unloaders set it off to the side to be stored in the bins that hold the merchandise till the customers come to pick them up. Once the items have been sent to the store an email is sent to the customer to let them know they can pick the item up. Lots of items have no shipping charges if you use site to store instead of sending it to your house. If your item is broken or lost after it is checked into the store then the store has to eat the cost and pull from the shelves for the customer if we have it in stock. Although I have never personally had a problem with any damaged items. The stores do get a kick back on the bottom line from items bought from site to store. But not directly from the sell of the item itself. In away it makes it worth it to the store itself and saves the customer some money. Also some items are easier to get online. I suggest it quite a lot to customers. Also if the store has the item on the shelf just go and buy the item on the shelf and skip using site to store. Why use Site to Store for items you can go and get anyways? |

You place the order and have to wait for it to arrive at the store. I am not sure where people get their information but they have misinformed you. Quote:

OK, well, I went off of the bad advice from iNCREDiPiNOY before I was able to read anybody else's replies. Here's what happened.
First, let me say that I've used site to store once before and it was a bad experience then too. You have to go to the back of the store and press this little electronic pad (similar to the credit card scanners). It then says that it's locating an associate, but I don't think it actually does because nobody EVER shows up. It's like a ghost town back there. Well, the same thing goes for this experience too. Anyway, once I was able to track somebody down, this is what happened: I said, "I purchased this online, but I was told that if it was in stock, you would take it off the shelf and hold it instead of getting one shipped to you." She said, "That's incorrect, you have to wait 7 to 10 business days for it to arrive." I said, okay, that's dumb. Can I go ahead and purchase it here for the same price as it is online and I'll just cancel my online purchase?" She allowed me to do so. So, you may be wondering why I purchased online anyway if I was just going to go up to the store and pick it up. First, our walmart's selection of Blu-Ray is VERY slim to none, but I KNEW they had a copy of this movie there when I was in the same store yesterday. BUT, it and another title where the ONLY two Blu-Ray titles they had in stock. So, I was afraid they would sell out of it. Second, the price on Walmart's web site is $23.something. At the store, it's $29.99. Luckily, she price matched for me. Third, I needed it today as it was a gift for my wife for her birthday today. So anyway, I'm off to cancel my online order. |
