Question The Punisher

With "Punisher: War Zone" heading into theaters this December, I have to ask: Should Lionsgate take the double-dip plunge and release the extended cut version of The Punisher (which is currently on DVD) to Blu-ray in order to prepare for the second film's release?

To me, I think that they should go ahead and release the extended cut on Blu-ray, as well as add a plethora of special features on the disc that were completely left out of the current Blu-ray release of The Punisher. In other words, I'm holding out on buying the current edition of The Punisher until Lionsgate releases the extended cut on Blu-ray.

What do you think?

I have a feeling that after the new film comes out I won't want to watch the first one anymore.

Bring on the '89 Punisher. Dolph Lundgren, baby! A triple feature with Showdown in Little Tokyo and I Come in Peace

I hope they will re-encode and add the extended scenes to a new release.
This is one of the few movies that are on my list of movies I really want to have, but would wait for a new "extended" cut and better PQ.

I would rather see Lionsgate release new Blu-rays instead of rehashing old releases, but this one NEEDS a remaster! A extended cut wouldn't hurt but I didn't think it was THAT great of a flim.. I know some thought it was good but never "great"... If the new Punisher doesn't flop (and I'm sure it will) they should re-release it and If they do, they should do a trade up program... I HATE the double dipping game! Just my 2cents

I missed this in the theaters, and I've been waiting for the extended cut to show up on Blu, so I still have yet to see this movie I was hoping the extended cut or at least a new AVC encode would come out over here since Sony owns the rights to it in Japan. It was one of their titles announced way back in 06 but unfortunately it got indefinitely delayed...

Since I already have both cuts on DVD, I won't pick up a Blu version of the Extended Cut. Can't be a bad idea though, especially to promote War Zone.

That would be a good idea and I'd bite.

I like the Marvel extended editions (although I've never seen FF extended.)

I met Thomas Jane at a Chiller Theater convention once....he was drunk and relatively cool. He was there with David Arquette (*sp) promoting a movie that they produced together.

If you like Tom Jane, see Thursday!!!

Yes, they should. Not only for the extended cut but also for a decent transfer and lossless audio (the original BD release has neither).

Haven't seen it on blu (heard about the crappy transfer), but this Punisher was the movie I've waited for since I was about eight years old. I'm very interested in seeing War Zone. I'd be willing to wait for a two-pack with extended editions of both.

I had both versions on DVD and preferred the theatrical cut better, probably the only time that has ever happened..

I'd like a remastered cut of the theatrical for sure.

...And to the comment of the Dolph Lundgren version, bring it on!! Own it, Like it!

Now you're talking. This is a great idea. Maybe we can get Bridge Of Dragons in there too?

I never did get this one on Blu since I have the extended cut on SDVD, but I would double dip for it. I am not so sure about this new movie. I hate the costume. The neck thingy he wears looks really stupid.

I've been bringing this up for the past year. Of course they should. No need to have the better version be DVD only.

I usually prefer an extended cut, but I have to agree that the theatrical cut was better. The extended cut just slowed down the pacing too much.

Personally, I can't take Dolph even as a joke. I met him at Videotheque on Sunset Blvd. in about 1990. What a conceited knob. As for the new Punisher, if you get a chance, there is a director's cut out there that is better than the theatrical cut, I think. There's an animated prelude and some slightly extended violence. It's usually cheap too. The transfer has always been kinda crappy and hence the Blu-Ray. They need to clean that puppy up or go back to the original negative and re-do the Blu-Ray. As for those who didn't like it... well, it's a comic book, man!!!
