Default Is Disney really nervous about Narnia?

Read this article:

As Disney begins to get nervous about "Narnia," Pixar now sets its sights on "Mars"

Speculation from a blogger, nothing more than that.

Jim Hill has a sterling reputation and superb contacts, don't discount him

More than likely, Adamson has delivered yet another slightly smarmy mediocre film, and they're worried the Christian allegory factor won't be enough to keep the box office up.

I hope that whoever does Dawn Treader is a much better filmmaker than he is.

i think its a mistake to make all 7 books into films, so i wouldn't be too upset if disney gave up on the series. but whats this about mars? who's read the books..should we be excited?

It's biggest problem is the release date. ONE WEEK before Indy Jones 4. I think that was a BIG mistake on their part.

I was actually really hoping to see all 7 books made into a movie. I remember reading them over and over as a kid and along with Treasure Island are the only books I ever read on my own vs. being forced to read for school. But if the movies aren't made It wouldn't surprise me cause I wasn't even sure they would continue after the 1st especially if they where expecting LOTR numbers at the box office.

True, but I think now there's more of CoN following now. The only people I see that's going to see Indy if the people who grew up with it. Well let me put it like this. Just look at what Rocky, Rambo, and Die Hard did. Really good movies but so so at the box office.

It's better than one week AFTER Indiana Jones 4.

I think Narnia 2 will still do well. I suspect much of its target audience has never seen an Indiana Jones movie (at least not in a theatre)

I say it'll do 60 to 80 million opening week. 30 the second week.

Narnia is a brand name now with the first already out. I would imagine Narnia would get the same sort of box office as the Harry Potter sequels did.

I love the books and a lot of people do as well. It's not going to do Disney any harm to do each one of them. It's not like they're trying to rehash the same idea over and over again. Each of the books is different and tells a greater story. That's the beauty and joy of Narnia.

So Narnia will be the movie everyone goes to see when they get to the theatre and Jones is sold out? To me it sounds like Disney knows exactly what they are doing when setting the release one week before Jones.

No, really, you still believe Jim has "contacts" these days (at least, ones that don't eerily talk like his own writing style)?

Maybe he used to (all of which were suspiciously enthusiastic to discuss how much all the employees "hated" John Lasseter), but now that there's been a studio plugging of leaks, Jimbo's had to take his "sources" where he can get them.
Which, nowadays, tends to be from where he used to get them all along. -_-

Heck, I'LL discount him--
Seeing as I was the one who gave him the most heck over his neurotic Pixar bashing (in one of which articles he was forced to "recant" his idea that Ratatouille had been a "flop", and still couldn't 100% bring himself to do it)...

And his readers eventually despaired that they could never read a Jim Hill article about an upcoming movie that didn't have "Studio nervous" in the headline, and tie it into Pixar somehow.

That would be disappointing. Hopefully they'll do well enough to continue the movies/story.

Yup. Agreed. I think that's precisely why Iron Man was bumped up two weeks. Indy 4 is a multi-generational draw... it'll be huge. Narnia... not really in the public consciousness as much as LotR was, but that's mostly a marketing gaffe by Disney. I think they feel a need to continue the series, but weren't the DVD sales somewhat lackluster on The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe?

You got Memorial Day weekend the next week. So it should do good if not the same as there first week. Remember Shrek 2 and The Day After Tomorrow. One behind the other. Shrek 2 still came in there 2nd week that MD weekend with The Day After Tomorrow coming in 2nd with 80 million in there 1st week.
