Default No sound after I hooked up my system (Onkyo 705 and 7.1)

Heya,
I just connected my system, and don't have any sound.
I connected the PS 3 with the receiver, and the receiver with the TV. Both through hdmi cables.
The PS 3 hdmi cable goes to the IN1 of the receiver, and the hdmi receiver from the OUT to the IN1 of the TV.

I have a picture but no sound.
I also set up the receiver as it was shown in the instruction manual after connecting everything.

I did:
1. Input/Output Assign (Menu)
2. Monitor Out (Input/Output Assign)
3. HDMI Input (Input/Output Assign)
4. 1-1. HMDI Monitor -Yes-
5. 1-2. DVD IN1 (HDMI Input)

I have a Sony XBR4 52, the PS 3 and the Onkyo 705.
I connected the cables and colors as they are shown in the picture, and when I am going through the menu, I get the test sound of five speakers and the subwoofer, but not the surround right and left.

The speakers are 7.1 and also from Onkyo.

What did I do wrong? How should I connect the stuff?

Thanks in advance

Check the audio output on the PS 3....that might be your problem.

Did you run the Audyssey setup? If you don't want to go through that, make sure that the receiver knows you have side speakers (under Speaker Setup > Speaker Config).

I would love to help you tonight, but I'm tired and on my way to bed. If you don't have things up and running by tomorrow night, I'll try to help you figure it out. We have a very similar setup and I had a similar problem to the one that you are having when I first hooked up my 705 7 weeks ago. I just don't remember the solution off the top of my head.

you have to go through the set up menu of the 705 and tell it your using 7.1 speaker set up. after that you should get the test tones out of the others. but i am assuming your not getting the sound from the surround back left and surround back right. if your not getting sound from the surround left and surround right, then check your wires.

Ok, I am back for now.
Yesterday evening I turned everything off and then on again. Then I started the menu of the PS 3 with the options of what kind of sound you have, and I checked everything which said 7.1 PCM.

After that I got sound of the center speaker and the subwoofer, but the rest was mute after I put in Casino Royale and GTA 4 (and the sound wasn't loud, I had to go around -25 on the speaker volume for understanding what they were saying.)

Sorry that I am kind of keeping myself short here, but I have to get ready for work.
I'll recheck everything later, and post here again. Maybe I am also going to take some pics of the connections, hopefully that will make the problem easier to discover.

Thanks a lot for right now.

I didn't get it from the surround left and right.
The back speakers were ok when I tested them in the Onkyo menu, and the wires fit to the colors on the back of the speakers. But I am going to recheck it.

Don't just check the 7.1 boxes. Check every box under the sound settings on your PS3. Also, make sure that your Digital Input on the receiver is assigned to the PS3 (DVD).

On your receiver:
1. Go to your In/Output Assign
2. Go to Digital Input
3. Set DVD to HDMI 1

I noticed you didn't do the step for 1-4 so that might be it.

Ok I took some pics now, I hope that this will explain things better.
The cables aren't put together in a good way, I just wanted to test if the system works at all.

I keep uploading more, but photobucket is so damn slow.

Set HDMI AUDIO OUT to "NO". You do not want to send your audio to your TV. I have the same setup. If I have it set to "YES", I get no audio through my speakers or TV. Set it to "NO" and you will have glorious 7.1 audio from your 705!

why do you have the blue/black speaker wire going into both the 'Front L' and 'Surround L' speaker terminal?

ediy: never mind, I think it just looks that way...but its not really?

I do notice that the positive speaker wire in the 'surround L' is sticking out...perhaps you have it to far through, and its not touching. The bare wire has to make contact in the terminal...looks like you passed too far through?

Nah, I was going to post the same thing. It looks like you've hooked up one speaker to two different inputs.
