Default 5ms or 120HZ?

If I get a 40" Samsung LCD do I really need 120hz or will I be good enough to go with with the new 5ms response time LCD's??

Is 120hz worth $500?

(wanna use with ps3 games, watch sports, and blu-rays.)

The lower the response time the better off you are. I plan on buying the Sony XBR-8 when it comes out. The main reason I am going with LCD is because of the 120hz.

I would think it's going to be about 4k. I can't see it starting higher then that considering Sony's Z series is at 3k. So 4k seems right for a 46".

I think you're getting the motionflow technology confused with 120hz. It should just remove the judder.

OP, I'd recommend 120hz. I don't have it, and the judder/"strobe" effect really gets to me personally. During panning, if there's a lot of detail in the shot (horizontal lines in fences, trees, lots of objects on the screen) it makes it flash because of the 3:2 pulldown. It bugs me personally a lot. My wife can't see it.

I don't know why people buy large LCDs. They're far too expensive and always come up short to midrange plasmas.
Actually according to cnet the best lcd's are just short of the best plasmas. I'd like to know where you're getting your info.

And LCD's are priced lower than plasmas, don't know where you are getting any of your numbers from?

Maybe it's because you were brainwashed by the plasma gods, that may be it.

can a plasma do that too?

Plasma just looks "digital" to me. It may just be me, but even the best ones have an artificial look.....allmost mechanical. Superior blacks, but I hate how twitchy they look.

my t.v. is in the hospital right now, so i haven't had the chance to see how my new, sony bd s500, is going to work. i have a 55" plasma, 1080i hitachi-ultravision. is the 120 hz situation going to screw me up?

Ok, touche'. But what I'm thinking you're seeing is the motion-enhancing settings rather than just what 120hz can give you. See a better explanation of what I mean here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=33838

Anytime anyone says "too smooth" it's a red flag that they're actually talking about motion-enhancement settings on high.

Well i can get a 40" Samsung with 5ms for $1000.

or

46" Samsung with 4ms and 120Hz for $1500.

That's why i really asked the question, is it really worth $500?

Edit: The 40" 120hz costs the same as the the 46"

again....no it is not worth the extra $500 dude! seriously! the 5ms response time will take care of motion blur! trust us who say the 120hz looks like crap! it looks incredibly fake and artificial, but each to his own i guess.....the best way for you to tell will be to study each tv a bit more and see which one YOU prefer.
