Unhappy My first ps3 glitch.

Last night while watching Superman the movie on it, during the balcony scene where Lois meets Sups and they go flying it froze. I couldnt press forward or anything, but pressing the PS button did allow for the option of turning off system/controller. I reset it and it played fine after. Just wondering what you guys can make of it. Am I on my way to warranty like i did with my 360, or could this just be an isolated incident?

If you can't duplicate the problem, then it was nothing more than a glitch. There is a lot of technology in these boxes, its not going to work 100% all the time.

And it is always good to turn it off if you are not currently using it, i.e. WiFi/net/charging/etc...

Not trite advice, especially as warm as these PS3's get.

turn off from main switch in rear, or just the normal standby power down? because i never turn off the main power...but i always shutdown using the controller when i'm not using.

I noticed my cable box that sits directly under the ps3 is only seperated by a think glass shelf. The cable box puts out an equal amount of heat to the ps3, probably a good idea to power the cable box off when playing ps3.

That's good enough.

Either that and/or give both these components more space from one another.

I've noticed that cable and sat. boxes never really "turn off" anyways.

Brian, maybe a silent small fan to circulate air around them? Air convection works wonders even if low but steady.

Best advice:

Avoid being an early adopter

To avoid glitches, problems, errors, defects, always wait at least a year before buying the product.

This is true as latter builds of products are ALWAYS better than the ones made before it.

This is your best bet to avoid stuff like these.

Another example is like the XBOX 360. Current 90nm proccessor produce toooo much heat (includes model made from Nov. 2005 up to Dec. 06). Those who wait for the 65-nm units to be put are the ones who are spared from excessive heat and super-noisy fan spinning.

Same goes for Wii. The early adopters got the defective wrist straps. Starting January next year, these should be fixed.

That's why, in order to get the most, you should always wait just a little before making a move

Avoid being an early adopter

Actually I was thinking about turning off features that are not currently needed, like when watching Blu-ray you might turn of WiFi (if possible), unplug ethernet, don't charge via USB and stuff like that, but powering down the system might be helpful as well

It is if it happens with worsening degrees like that Toshiba HD-DVD player I had here during the summer...which I seriously doubt will happen here and I have yet to hear about any BD related product having the miserable track record those POS Toshiba players have.

It is something he has to keep an eye on and be prepared to deal with.

Just had my first game-related glitch today. I downloaded the new F1 Formula Racing demo from the Playstation store and it looks like it may have corrupted my Resistance Fall of Man save file. Now I have to start from the beginning all over again Fortunately, it's a great game, so I won't suffer too much

Incidentally, I played the F1 demo and WOW. It really looks and plays great and it's still an early build!

funny, i haven't had a single issue since this weird freeze up the othernight.

also ironic, after reading this...my ericsson w810i locked up trying to connect to a kodak blue-tooth printer a hard reset fixed it.

interesting i'm not worried about my phone, yet im cautious of my ps3

Me personally, I am not into using net on a game console. I also use my computer for charging the controller. I heard some people were going to try to use the usb port of their cable/sat boxes to see if that works.

6 days later, i've watched a movie (or 2) every night since, plus gaming...haven't had any issues.

My PS3 froze last night while watching Fantastic Four. It still responded to the controller, as I was able to bring up the OSD and the PS button still worked.

Oh well... I popped it into the Sammy and resumed playback with no problem.
