Default Receiver cooling

I currently have my receiver in a tv cabinet that has about 10 inches between the top of the cabinet and the receiver but it still feels pretty hot on top. Do you think I need to take it out of the cabinet or will it be ok?

Naa, it should be fine. I have my Onkyo 605 in a completely free space with nothing around it. It gets so hot that it melted my wallet and all my band cards which i stupidly placed on top of it. Never once has it ever overheated. And just for the record - I never shut it off. I'll click the power button if for whatever reason i walk by it when its not in use, but beyond that it remains powered on 24/7.

Point is, Your receiver should be fine where it is. Not to mention, it has plenty of room from what your telling me.

Default yes

I would cool it some how, I ordered small p.c. fans from newegg glued them together and brought the wires together at one point then soldered then to a 12 volt wall plug for power, works great.

Receivers do get hot but people should not juge it by touching the metal part on top. the metal makes it seem hotter than it really is, i just put my hand over the top and feel the heatflow. it gets hot yes, but the metal is even hotter.and my mine is on top of my entertailment cabinet where it has all the space in the world, mine gets up to 125 degrees.
