Default Why do audio packages come with DVD players?

I get annoyed with all the reciever/speaker packages that come with DVD players and multiple disc drives. They might as well come with a VCR. I think most buyers would prefer NOT to have the dvd drives included with their audio set ups. They are two seperate technologies. It would be like buying a TV and having a DVD player come with it... who cares! Its just a waste when I already have a player (blu-ray at that!)

I agree. I think the target audience is the sort of person who thinks they're getting a good deal by buying everything bundled. Those in the know (like thee and me) wouldn't buy such a package in the first place.

Seriously....what's up with all CAPS? Do you know how hard that makes it to read? People will just skip over what you say and not even bother with it.

I always skip posts written in caps. Anyone not considering basic writing etiquete usually has nothing to say that I want to here. They are the same people I completely avoid in the real world... loud and obnoxious.

Anyway, I was just in Best Buy and it was nice to see they had a couple 7.1 recievers. On topic almost every 5.1 came with DVD player and speakers.

Maybe it's for the convienience of the consumer. The bundled DVD player is hooked up to the receiver for decoding audio, like DD and DTS, and is also directly connected to the reciever for video. Then it's easier to hook up. I guess that's the logic, which does make sense.

What is it with people buying HTIB? Same stupid question.

They come with DVD players because it costs them almost nothing to include, and they can make a big profit off of it. They can because people want something just good enough to have the effect. Some people, no matter how long they save and skimp and sratch up money, can never afford anything better, and certaintly can not afford a BD player or quality speakers. What they can afford is a high value:cost DVD player that gives them more than they could EVER buy otherwise. Normally to buy the same thing as quality individual parts would break the budget.

But again, What kind of person would be looking at a HTIB w/DVD to use with a Blu-ray player? They obviously dont care about sound, so why would they even upgrade from DVD? They should be using DVD

They will do it when BD players when BD players can be built for $10-$30 and coupled with the same old crappy 5.1 speakers.

No stupid questions...

BTW, why ARE you looking at a HTIB including ANYTHING? Even if it is a reciever, you are getting snaked. BD player, VCR, DVD, they would all be the same garbage speakers. I would not be giving you a hard time if you were not complaining about trying to pair garbage with awesome in the first place.

In other words, most BD buyers would prefer NOT to have crappy HTIB with their their BD set-up. They are two seperate qualities. It would be like buying a BD player and going out and buying a brand new CRT 480p TV.

Many consumers, though, would like those speakers with their DVD players.

If you shop right, you can get a stand-alone DVD player for less than $15. DVD players for computers are even cheaper.

I will admit that I was one of those people that bought a HTIB for bluray use. I did not know that they were not of great quality. I have never been into the audio portion before but after reading all the stuff here decided to upgrade. I thought I did h0omework but I guess, just like in high school, slacked off on it. Driver king and a few others helped me out in my situation, which was yesterday. I got a yamaha HTIB for a good deal. I thought that because it had an HDMI input/output I was set. i was so wrong. I went back today and piced up the yamaha vr 663, or something like that, I know the number is 663. I also had to go cheap on the speakers so I picked up some yamaha 5.1 on sale for about 100, down from 300. I hooked it up and WOW. I cant imagine how much better it will sound when I can afford better speakers. Alot of people said the receiver would make the difference jut to start off.

I guess my point is that alot of people do not know that they are not that great and they get pulled into this deception that the packages are better. About 9 out of 10 included a DVD player. One included a Blu ray player(samsung I think) Man, I love this receiver.

I work at an electronics store and the sad fact is alot of people just dont know enough about audio to understand why its not a good idea to get a combo unit that comes with a dvd built in which is for long term use a waste of money.

many people also dont want to spend alot of money so there will always be a market for htib packages.

Crappy quality is "good enough" for the majority of people.

I watched National Treasure 2 on PS3, Sony 37XBR6 and Sony HTSS2000 (home theater in a box which costs $300) The sound was awesome for the price - $300, passed the whole HDMI signal through 1080/24p. it didn't come with a DVD player. It was a pretty impressive low budget HD setup. BTW don't bother telling me how they don't compare with more expensive speakers, that is just stating the obvious.

people who buy htib want two things...
1. the conveniece of spoonfeeding. heck if someone came with the box to install it, they'd be selling more than xboxes. (i had to )
2. price. as most consumers out there, they want the best buck for the cheapest amount of money they can shell out. quite ironic cause people buy 6k hdtvs and cant afford a dime for their home theater setups.

its also a matter of economics, you cant really make any moolah when you'd be selling a 'relatively cheap and good' bluray player in a bundled HTIB.
1. they'd be clamoring for the newer formats (meaning more money on the manufacturer- theyre more skimpy than the consumer at times)
2. how'd they set it up?
3. the market isnt 'mature' enough for the regular consumers. they are aware of it, but even if some numbers show households with a good ratio regarding hd displays, they're pretty content with their standard dvd player. or are just plain broke because of that 6k telly they bought.

htib consumers will always be in the market. no doubt. and manufacturers know that. its a manner of finding means to minimize that market for manufacturers to acknowledge it aint working no more, and to produce higher quality 'htibs'...

but then again thats why walmarts still around despite of target (tar-jay as pronounced by the 'rich people')...

Very sad, but true. Fortunately, some of those people see the light when they hear a good system and try to amend their ways. Others, though, are a hopelessly lost cause...

It is more like buying Kobe Steak and trying to garnish it with ketchup and then complaining about the quality of the lable.

YOU DONT PUT KETCHUP (HTIB) WITH KOBE STEAK (BD) IN THE FIRST PLACE. Crying about the packaging that the katchup does not change that you are trying to mix shit with awesome.

I love the ones who are hopelessly lost, they are in complete denial..."no a htib is just as good" "theres no difference between dolby digital and dolby true hd"
but in reality they just don't want to spend money which is fine but they don't have to lie about it lol

I have a HTIB w/DVD that I bought from costco when my DVD player broke down. The DVD player part broke and so I bought a PS3, so now I just have the speakers hooked up to a mid end reciever I got for 80% off. It is like getting punched in the ear sometimes, but I accept it, because I enjoy eating and being able to get to work/school.

When I can afford something better I will get it. I am waiting to get the polks that DriverKing has in his sig, but I think that will be the maximum I spend on sound and picture until I can go MUCH better, no middle steps for me.

I dont like it, but it is better than sound from the TV.

Ketchup on Kobe beef.
