Default PS3, HDTV, or HDMI problem?

I just bought a new MGS 80gig bundle pack and am having a problem. I swapped it to HD via HDMI but every time i turn it on it won't pull up the screen. Sound wise it comes out of the receiver fine via optical. I switch the hard power off and back on and bam the screen comes up and it works perfectly. I may go buy a second HDMI cable just to eliminate the possibility, but I really don't want it to be a PS3 problem... Anything I can try to cut out possibilities or any idea.

Try turning the PS3 on first then swithing your TV to HDMI. It could be a problem with the handshaking between the two. There is no need to buy another HDMI cable as it would not just work some of the time. It would either work or not work.

Start on my regular Component cable to HDMI after the PS3 is on? If that's what you mean i'll try that next.

No, I just mean power the PS3 on first then turn your TV on, or go to the HDMI imput channel on your TV after turning your PS3 on.

You could also try the reverse of turning your TV on first then turning on the PS3. I am not sure where the disconnect between signals might be happeneing. I do not have the problem with mine and have only seen something simular once when I took my PS3 to a friends house. It worked fine on one HDTV of his, then the second TV didnt want to take the signal at first.

You could do the video reset option by holding the power button until it beeps from standby mode. This will have you reset the video and it will detect if you are hooked up via HDMI.

Alright thanks. Now it's working no matter what I do. Of course. I'll update later, haha.

The only time I've had this problem was switching the PS3 from a standard to a HDTV when I would bring it back and forth from my house to my friends house.

If you put the PS3 on standby mode, and then hold the power button until it beeps 3 times and goes back to red it will reset everything and give you your picture back. It will ask you to run audio and video through HDMI. You'd pick no since you are running audio through optical. Then just go into the settings and adjust the display and audio settings manually

Nah I used to swap my old one house to house all the time with friends so I know how to swap out from SD to HD. It's already all setup to HD when I turn it on.
