Default Will PSP connect to my HDTV and Home Theater System?

I'm thinking of getting PSP strictly so I can play FFVII Crisis Core. But I don't want to play it solely on a little PSP screen. Is it possible to connect the PSP to my HDTV and stereo? Is there any special equipment I would need for this?

yes the component cable (supplyed seperately) made for the psp system will allow you to play on your HDTV.

And if your TV/receiver upscaled component-in, the games look fantastical!

I keep hearing that the component cable is too short. Can you extend the cable using extensions, or will that not work?

I was hoping there was a way to plug this directly into the PS3, but I guess not...

Extensions will work. The Sony brand one is rather short. I bought the Rocketfish brand version from Best Buy. It is 10'.

Do I also need a special AC adapter, or will the one that comes with the PSP work OK?

Same one. You are just transfering the AV to a new source. The system is still held in your hands and powered in the same way as using headphones with the standard display.

Thanks, Cordre69, you've been very helpful. Now the last thing I'm trying to figure out is if there is any way to either play a UMD on the PS3, or connect the PSP to my PS3 and use the PS3 controls to play the game...

That would probably be too good to be true, so I'm assuming it is...

First off, the component cable only works with the slim model right? As far as I know the component cable did not come out until the slim version was released. I'd like to know if it works on the older model.

If you connect the PSP to your HDTV via component, everything will work. What you see on the PSP screen will be displayed on your HDTV.

As for your last question. None of that is possible at this time. The gameplay elements implemented so far have worked over wireless from PS3>PSP and the lag is making the whole point of it useless.

It would be much easier for Sony to write an emulator for you and allow you to download PSP games to your PS3.

Been sick for days so I haven't been around to reply, sorry!

No 'fat' PSP support for video out without unofficially modding the system internally.
The rest of the post is correct.

I agree that Sony could sell a lot more PSP games if they had some-kind of cross-compatibility between the systems. "Remote Play" makes no sense, since the only thing you can play is music and movies. I want to "play" the games!!

Since my original post, I have since purchased a PSP 2000, component cable works great, bought a 10' one and added another 10' extension to that. We're still finishing off FFXII, but as soon as that's done, on to Crisis Core! (this is the most hassle and expense I have ever incurred just to play one game, it better be worth it).

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but you can play PS1 games off the PS3 thru your PSP and there are some PS3 games such as PixelJunk Monsters that can be played via the PSP.
