Can't think of a thing to offer to you as advice for this unit. It's played right out of the box for me perfectly with no FW updates yet. I think you're going to pleasantly surprised.

Hope youre right, I know there will be future updates, hopefully you can still do them by disc as thats how Ive done them in the past. The manual mentions the usb port to update also, I dont really understand that yet, but Im sure I will in time. Ive always used a flash drive to update the ps3. I guess a few negative remarks in the review thread caused me to question the player some, guess Ill see in time!

Looks like Sumsung has launched an online Blu-ray Resource Center*. It looks like there is a firmware update scheduled for 6/30. This is a good step forward to improve their Blu-Ray customer service. Plus the 1500 is BD-Live ready (just add memory and a firmware update).

So not a bad choice at all

I'm pretty sure you'll always have the capability too update the player via burned disk. That's the way I always did my 1400 when I had it. I won't hook my 1500 up via ethernet so disk is the way I'd do it everytime and I could care less about 2.0 because extra menus and downloadable trailers mean absolutely nothing to me. I think everyone puts too much weight into 2.0 because it's not something that effects the PQ or AQ outcome. It is just extra marketing fluff that means nothing to me. So, when the public debates on forums like these about players being better than others because of 2.0, there is absolutely nothing in that debate that would, and will ever, convince me that a player with 2.0 is better than a player with 1.1. 2.0 has no relevance on the PQ and AQ performance.

Amen brother!
At times I wonder if some members here even care about PQ and/or SQ with their PS3s hooked up to their 32" CRT with built in sound.
