I've had our Samsung 1400 for about 6+months now. I've updated the s/w when I first got it to 071113.01_XAA. I've purchased several movies - Rambo all 4, Spiderman3, Ratatouille, POTC3, OpenSeason, CasinoRoy, and maybe a few more. We rented quite a few - but in a nutshell - I'm stumped and need to confirm my setup &/or pic.quailty opinion -
I'm using HDMI output to my LG 42"1080p is set on both. I have an off-air ant. that is crystal clear, but only gets me 720p. When watching a few of my movies I haven't seen the pictures that look similar to my off-air. Ratat in the cooking scenes in the features option is about the best clarity I've seen. Most of the movies are clear, but not OMG that is amazing, like the OA. It seems like in every movie some scenes are grainy and then to clear image, but not like the off-air. Why is it @ 720p OA vs. 1080p on the BD it's doesn't seem any better? Also, I'm using coaxial output for my audio and have selected the proper audiio output in the menu/settings - but if I turn on my tv speakers there is a delay - Any input would be appriciated. Thanks! Last edited by jhosk; 06-23-2008 at 11:42 AM. |

Can anyone help me? Quite a few folks have read this - Just looking for some BlRay feedback - Are the movies you watch with no grains? Is the image as good as HD?

did you calibrate your TV? specifically turn down the 'sharpness' and adjust the brightness and contrast accordingly.

I've done that - I've gone into the setup on the br-player and selected hdmi and 1080p. After doing that I entered the 1st movie and changed the contrast/and other settings. I'm wondering if maybe it's just my hdmi cable - It's not the 1.2v. So I'm wondering is a cable a cable is a cable?

hdmi cables are category 1 or category 2.
Companies merely label them v1.3 to appease the masses who believe the hype. Most any cable rated category 2 will pass the info. Even a category 1 cable may pass but more likely to have problems. The HDMI v1.3 rating is intended for the hdmi transmitter/receiver chip at the terminal of each device not the cable itself. ![]() |

its not your set up its film grain, its supposed to be there. How well the transfer was made is also a factor. some look good some don't. Alot of the difference is digital vs film. All your animated movies for example are clear and look stunning(digital), and certain movies have grain which is a product of the film stock. all the detail is still there, you just see grain and its distracting, once you accept the grain and move on you'll see!
ps: the marketing hype of crystal clear picture got me too, and i was on here asking the same questions, then you learn the truth about film and everything that goes along with it and you'll start understanding what blu-ray is really all about. It is leaps and bound better in every aspect of the technology, you just see the byproduct of film, which in all reality has nothing to due with blu-ray. I have the BD-P1400 and a Toshiba HD-A30 High Definition player. I have several films of both formats and I gotta' tell you that I think HiDef was a far superior picture. Maybe it is just the few discs that I own, I don't know. I still love blu ray but....

not to mention, movies made for both formats were limited to hd-dvd's lower bitrate potential. |
