Default Question about routers?

I know there is probably a thread somewhere in here about this topic but I was wondering what is the best router PS3 compatible for online gaming (preferably COD4). I just recently upgraded my internet but it still seems the same as far as online play. I appreciate any feedback, Thanks Guys!!!

Well i recently switched from a linksys wireless G router to a wireless N router. the N performs much faster for tasks like downloading, or ps3 games, however if you have a 360 (like my worthless brother) the 360 adapter cantp ick up on the N signal and you will have nothign but problems. so as long as you dont have a 360 pick up the Linksys Wireless N Router for 69 bucks at bestbuy or find one cheaper on amazon or something

WRT54GL <L for Linux> try to find an older one as they have better hardware

they're prized because you can use 2nd party firmware which really utilizes the router

u wont really notice anything from a Wireless N(but by all means)... the G gives u everything u need

edit:also regardless if u have a N or G pleaaase just run a long ethernet cable from the router to ur ps3 wireless gaming is bleeeeeeh

wireless isnt all that great unless you have it far away in another room or to connect it up to other things in your house like a itouch, laptop, other wireless things...

make sure the router has PnP so it can hook up the ports for you automaticly to get nat2 for online play.

Again the PS3 is not compatible with 802.11 N protocol, so you will not see any of the benefits of that wireless standard, including increased speeds or range. The PS3 is only compatible with 802.11b/g standards, so even if you have a type N router, you will only be using the G speeds and ranges.

I find that most over the counter routers work well, but the Linkys seems to be solid, I have not had to open ports to play online using that router.

had this router for 12 months now, its completely faultless IMO. been running my xbox 360 (thanks to the routers 802.11a network) and also a nintendo ds, psp and of course my PS3.

I had a piece of shit linksys and the connection dropped out all the time.
set this baby up once and unless your tech savvy you will probably never have to touch it again

Personally, I like my D-Link Gamerlounge routers. They are very good and would highly suggest them to anyone!

Believe this is the model that Xerios is referring to btw:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1194054018722

They've got the item on sale for $69.99 (from $99.99) at Best Buy, believe this is the second consecutive week they've had it on sale.

I've had the model previous to this one, the WRT300N, and have had no issues/difficulties with running the PS3/Wii/PSP/DS and home network off of it so should be safe to assume this one will continue the trend. But as everything goes, some people will like it, some people won't but ultimately its up to you with what you want to upgrade with

Thats not too bad of an idea. Have you noticed a difference in online gameplay? My PS3 is on a different floor and download speeds aren't slow persay as its probably around 100kb/sec, but I experience a large amount of lag while playing games online.

you can get a UK one but will need a step up convertor for the voltage.

Oh I was referring to Xander's comment with a router other than the OP's that works well for him.

I found this guy on Ebay thats selling them for $69.99 each with $12.39 S&H.
I'll probably pick one up from him for a price like that. Worst case senario I have a brand new router to replace my current one that still lags while gaming. Either way shelf life of my router in the household will increase.

you guys must be able to pick up buffalo cheap their an american company.
as stated anyway - buffalo are excellent in reliability and if you are also an xbox 360 owner the A&G networks are great as the 360 loves those A signals- they are also less susceptible to interference tell me to (insert fave swearword here) off......... if im insulting your intelligence. not everyone has a good pc knowledge though.!!!!
