Johnny Depp as the Riddler?

well i have the news on right now, NBC. and they were talking about johnny depp teaming up with tim burton again for a remake of alice in wonderland. then they went on to say batman producers were talking with him for a role as the riddler for the next batman. anyone else hear this?

B) That would actually be pretty cool (from what I heard, Riddler might be a cyber-terrorist of some sort). Some fanboys may cry, but Depp really can do about anything.

also mentioned is phillip seymour hoffman as the penguin... he was actually kind of bad ass in mission impossible 3... so might be enough of a menace to bring the series onwrds

i actually read the Nolan said hes not gonna do the penguin. he said hes too much of a chessy character. thats what i heard anyway.

since Nolan is goin for a mature batman series, i think the riddler should be along the lines of the saw movies.

Well, I saw one episode of The Batman (about 2 or 3 episodes total) where the riddler was this kind of brooding, Marilyn Manson-esqe type of character. It actually worked very well. I've never really liked Riddler because I always saw him portrayed as a goofy genius. My friend who's a Batman aficionado said that is NOT the Riddler.

well i never really read any of the comics, so the only way i know him as is jim carrey which was goofy. im interested in seeing Nolans take on the riddler. johnny depp is a good choice in my opinion.

I thought the rumor has been that the Anthony Michael Hall character would morph into the Riddler character?

As far as personal speculation, I think the next film is the perfect opportunity to introduce the Catwoman character.

heard a news report on the radio yesterday (in australia) reporting that angelina jolie looks like signing up as cat women...i hope this isnt true due to it being cat women (riddler would be a lot darker and more suitable)

any news in america or uk about this?

When Bruce is talking with Lucius Fox about the new armour and whether it will stop dog bites, Fox says, "It'll definitely stop a cat." Or, something along those lines.

I really wouldn't want her as Catwoman. Sure, she's talented, but too much of an obvious choice. I'd rather the director go with a semi-known actress who can really surprise us with her portrayal much like Heath did with the joker and Aaron Eckhart as Two-Face.

Crispin Glover would be much, much better.

Please no catwoman, please no penguin, I don't think any of these villians fit in Nolans world. Also as much as I l.ove Depp it seemed a little cliched that they offer im every cool role though he typically plays them all well. The Squid was a chinese mob boss, they could do him very easily and realistically. How bout bane? Could we get a large actor like MCD to play him or possibly an unknown. The man almsot killed batman, could be a great story line. Or there was a villian, hush who could also be cool.

Agreed!!

What I really respect about Nolan are his casting decisions in not going for the obvious choice but for an actor that fits the role the way he envisions it.

I don't know about anyone else but I was very impressed with what Aaron Eckhart brought to the Harvey Dent role.
