I noticed recently it locked up on the John Mayer Blu-ray. Then tonight watching Vantage Point it locked up again. So I exited out to the XMB. Then when it gets there all the icons for videos and pictures won't display preview icons. They all show a spinning arrow and nothing will load. So I reboot my PS3 and now it won't show there's a Blu-ray in the drive. The icon doesn't even appear. Everything else plays fine: videos on my hard drive and on my media server play just fine. What's going on here? Is there a tech support number I can call? I bought this 60GB from a friend of mine and I don't want to have to buy a 40GB or 80GB.

I had a similar Issue with mine however it wont play any discs whatsoever, i started doing it right after the last firmware update. I have the 80 GB model. can you tell if the disc is spinning? my unit takes the disc in but it wont spin or recognize that a disc has been inserted.
if the unit is under a year old and you can provide proof of purchase from a store sony will service it however its unlikely that you will get the same unit back you might get another 60 gb unit back but it probably wont be the one you sent them. I purchased mine from best buy and as i had not bought the extended warrenty they refused to help me. I bought the unit on october 3rd 2007 and it failed on July, 9 2008. so far thats the longest any dvd player from sony has lasted me so they must be getting better. Im awaiting an email back from sony so i can send mine in. once I get it back im selling it on ebay. I have 3 games for it that i hardly ever play (not a big gamer but a big movie person) and they are going on ebay as well. I just bought a samsung BD player and its a whole heck of a lot quieter than my 80 gb ps3. ive noticed its gotten louder as the months go by. now that peoples PS3 are starting to age somewhat i bet were gonna find out how reliable they really are. heres a link for getting your unit serviced: https://service.us.playstation.com/ Last edited by hoogoosedmoose41; 07-13-2008 at 01:00 AM. |

Well I called Sony, who's tech support was very nice and helpful, I was pleasantly surprised. While I was on the phone I tried to play Vantage Point again and it gave me the "This video cannot be played" message with an error number under it. So unfortunately he told me my Blu-ray laser is probably dying and I would need to send it back for repair. It's out of warranty so there's $150 I didn't want to spend.
