Default Why do Blu-rays load so fast on PS3?

I have a PS3 and BR take maybe 5-8 seconds to load yet on a stand alone players some movies take MINUTES!!! Is it because the PS3 has ALOT and I do mean ALOT more horsepower under the hood than a reg. Blu-Ray player hence it process the movie at a faster rate?

I think it has a lot more to do with it having a lot faster read head for game playing

that means that as prices continue to come down, this may also improve, right?

I'm sure it will. As the drives become cheaper to make, especially as computer drives become more ubiquitous. The $200 drive this Christmas certainly will help, I expect them to hit $129 by next xmas

very cool right now the lowest cost BD drive I've seen in my area is $285 it's a Combo drive, but it's now in that price range where I can build computers for other people with BD playback support

The PS3 is a MONSTER machine, it has fast read heads, and the Cell processor has yet to even be used close to it's full potential.

Any way you slice it the PS3 is one damn nice blu ray player and a damn nice upconverting dvd player too. Love those super fast menu transitions and just general responsiveness.

I wonder what load times are like on the amazing $98 hd dvd player.

The BD drive in the PS3 is 2x (normal speed is 1.5x) and in addition the Cell processor is much faster at things like Java than the embedded players. As the hardware in the players get better, they'll eventually become faster than the cell for specialized tasks.

Because the PS3 is the new deity on the block!

Do you know if the JVM actually uses the SPEs and not just the PPE?
