Default Uh-oh. HD-DUD version of THE DEPARTED #28 on Amazon

What is this? Some type of HD-DUD nutjob rally to buy this version? Misleading links given to standard DVD owners (it's a combo disc after all) or are the Standard DVD owners confused as they think this version will be better in their $25 Onkyo player?

Whatever, it's higher than any blu-ray movie right now... and I was feeling so good seeing the charts of late, with blu-ray kicking it's a** all over the place.

Oy, makes me sick and I'm sure is just firing up the HD-DUD user base right now.

Sounds right, recent content so small any movie being released will jump to the top. Nothing else to acquire besides this and older movies out there now.

lol that's great. Sadly some may believe that

I thought they were fired up against combo discs? But look where they put their money. What's the point in buying a disc that's half useless to you? That's like paying extra to buy a Madden 2007 combo, with the PS2 version on one side and the PS3 version on the other. Quite stupid if you ask me.

The BD version had been ahead of the HD-DUD version for some time now, only in the past couple of days has it overtook the BD version so BD may still have the highest amount of total copies sold

Oh well, we don't have to buy it.

Those who bought into HD-DUD should've known they'd get force fed this crap

Yeah, good points Blue and Maximus... seeing this just killed my happy BD buzz is all. Death to HD-DVD!

I don't get it. Why would someone want to buy a combo standard/hi def package of anything? If I can buy the hi def version of a title I would never consider watching the SD verision and I would not care to own it. It seems like marketing gone bad.

I don't get it either. Stupid stupid stupid.

Death to combos as well!

EDIT: Never mind... #29 and falling. HD-DUD can't keep it up I guess...

Yeah, they keep flip-flopping. The BD had jumped back in front of the HD DVD earlier today to about #27 but later dropped behind. The BD version has been consistently higher than the HD DVD, which leads me to believe that even if the HD DVD is higher than the BD for the past few hours, the BD has far outsold the HD DVD.

BTW, Casino Royale is still going strong there as well. Last I checked it was around #43. That means that BD still has 2 titles on Amazon's top 100, where HD DVD has 1 lonely title (which is a Warner title - not an HD DVD exclusive).

Remember too... This doesn't account for the B&M sales. In B&M sales, BD is killing HD-DVD, at least where I'm from. I think HD-DVD is backed mainly by people who spend lots of time online, thus are much more likely to make a purchase online. BD on the other hand has many users (PS3 owners) that are much more likely to purchase a title in the stores. So we'll wait and see what the Videoscan numbers say in two weeks.

It was out of the top 60 for so long whilst BR version has been consistently in the 30's that its just a bit of demand before release. The BR version has obviously had a LOT more preorders.

Well the HD DVD supporters have only The Departed to choose from this week. They have been kind of, of, err.. a bit starved, of lately, so I'm sure every one of them is buying one.

Blu-ray supporters have to choose among 12 to fill their plate:

Broken Arrow (Fox)
Chain Reaction (Fox)
Chronos (R & B)
The Departed (Warner)
Entrapment (Fox)
Ladder 49 (Buena Vista)
The Marine (Fox)
Phone Booth (Fox)
Planet of the Apes ('01) (Fox)
Reign of Fire (Buena Vista)
The Sentinel (Fox)
The Usual Suspects (Fox)

Not everyone can eat all of them at the same time, or will choose The Departed as their main course.

Hey! If I wanted to be like one of them I could turn this around and say: well, if the Blu Departed is selling as much as the HD Departed, that means there's Blu purchasing choices being divided among twelve, so that must mean Blu-rays are selling 12 to 1.

Couldn't I?

Exactly, HD-DVD has no content, so anything that comes out they will buy it just to have something to watch. BD has tons to offer and more every single week. Because of this, the rankings MAY be a little lower on BD, but is usually not the case. For weeks, the departed BD was ahead of the hd-dvd, where in the last minute its gone up for HD. Make no mistake, once its released, it will plummet like a rock like all other HD-DVD titles. It would be funny if Fox, Disney, MGM and Sony released sampler movies for 5 bux each. I cant believe a calibration disc and a sampler disc are part of HD-DVD strategy lol.

Death to combo discs!!!

And because of it, the prices of HD-DVD discs are jacked-up as well.

Pathetic indeed.

For the departed:

HD-DVD version (with DVD side) = 40 US dollars
Blu-ray DVD version (complete) = 35 US dollars.

The combo bull**** goes against the famed principles of HD-DUD fanboys that their beloved format is cheaper and proclaim it as gospel truth.

Whatever.

I can't believe how fired up people get over something like this, who really cares which version sells more. I bought an HD DVD player back in Aug cause they were cheaper than Blu Ray but then I got the PS3 anyway. At first I was all about HD DVD cause I only owned that player but I realized Blu Ray had alot more potential just from the movies selection that is and will eventually be available. I went with the Blu Ray of The Departed and I think Blu Ray should've been the standard and this war is the most ridiculous thing ever but this is what we've been dealt. Bottom line is they're both good no matter what anyone says when it comes down to great looking movies and sound.

Don't tell me they are going to count that sampler disc in the number of discs sold on HDDVD. If that's the case, the BDA should put out a $1 sampler disc on Amazon and milk that strategy until the cow is dry.

I think some people put way too much stock in Amazon ratings, one way or the other. Hardly scientific, authoritative, or absolute.

Why do you hate the combo disc so much if it's not a part of the Blu-ray format? On the contrary, if it's really such a bad idea then I would think the sentiment here would be to hope that HD DVD hangs on to the combo in order to hasten its demise.

Things must be very quiet over at HD-DVD.com for you to start posting over here.

Combos are just terrible idea in general, but you make a good point: I hope HD-DVD continues to embrace terrible ideas like these so it dies that much faster. You're exactly right about that.

I have traded posts with you over at AVSF, you seem not to like BD, in which case why are you here?

Maybe he's another person that's become "format neutral" as of late.
