Default Heat concerns

If I have a room, that I know is "HOT" right now.... if the components such as projector, receiver, PS3, SACD player, and even Speakers....... are in a room that isn't temp. controlled, how hot can the room be before it starts to harm said components when not in use.....

100 Degrees???? If I put a receiver, not turned on, in a room that is 100 degrees, for an extended period of time, will it harm it?

The reason I ask, is my new house has electricity etc... but I don't want to run the A/C etc. while we're not living there, but I want to start moving my stuff over there, and it could be there for a couple months without use....

if it's no big deal, it'd be in my best-interest to move my gear (kids!!) sooner than later, but if I have to wait until the place is temp. controlled, I'd understand.

Even when not in use? I'm guessing they don't use temp. controlled cargo-bays when they're on the ocean-liners on their way to the states...... I just don't know what temp. these things can sit at, in the box.

no problem with humidity..... I go over there to work (painting, etc) and I open up some windows so I don't die....... but was wondering if I brought my equipment over little-by-little, and stored it in one of the rooms, if it'd be alright..... for dust purposes, I'd want to keep them in one of the upstairs rooms... which are a few degrees warmer..... maybe I'd just leave the windows open to help cool it down, but it still has hit low 90's the last few days, so second floor, no A/C, it's gonna be hot.... but the stuff would be sitting on the wood floor, unplugged.... so I figured it'd be o.k. but thought I'd check.

Just, don't leave them in direct sunlight.

I would think that if they are just sitting there, heat wont matter really. I would definately put them in a box or wrap in plastic to avoid dust or whatever. Also, I would do my best to keep them out of the sun, especially your speakers..

I'll plan on putting it all in a walk-in-closet.... that should take care of the dust, AND sun issue...

thanks guys!

Why not just store the equipment on the 1st floor of the empty house as I am assuming you are thinking about going ahead and putting it in its 3rd third story room.

Humidity would be more harmful on equipment. Crack an inaccessible window on the third floor to let heat escape.

I'm tearing out Wall-paper on the first floor, painting all the rooms, new stone floors and counter-tops are being delivered for the kitchen..... basically there is a lot of construction/destruction going on, and I think the dust will be an issue..... I'll just put them in a closet, leave the door open and open the windows in the room..... that should take care of it.....

I won't be placing the stuff on the third floor until I'm moved in, so I can control the temp.

Good luck with the remodel!!! If you have any subcontracted work being done I would have someone over there to watch like a hawk. "HORROR STORIES" especially when tile is concerned. Even more so if you are using natural stone tiles, use a sealer 1st before grout or the finish will suffer.

Once you start tearing into one thing another problem arises.

Ah, listen to me. Can't help but talk about work. Anyhow much luck!!!

I'm concerned with whether or not 'Heat' will be released too.

Even in use, you will be okay if you keep everything seperate.

It is never REALLY a good idea to stack your components (although sometimes you have to do what you have to do). YOU should not stack at all under those conditions and you will be fine unless you are running everything for 20+ hours at a time.

If your stuff is just being stored that way, then you are fine.

Enjoy and I hope you can get it all set up and figured out soon.

Later,

I prefer to watch to ensure it's done right, but more for the fact that I like to "learn" from the pros...... I can put down tile floors etc (these are slate) but I've never put a counter-top in, etc... and I'm really anxious to see what they do....

Slate is great!!! I will be doing my bathroom in "Tiger slate" /black slate and a pebbled shower floor. Do you already have the slate??? Buy some extra you'll need it. It's the inconsistent beauty of nature and you will maybe get tiles that are almost useless. Have fun and practice makes perfect.

P.S. before you lay the tiles down permanently do a basic layout of the tiles and maybe you might like a heated floor???
