Default The Lone Ranger is...

Johnny Depp

Quote:
During Disney's preview today in Hollywood, the studio questioned who could possibly play the titular character in its upcoming feature The Lone Ranger.

At that, Disney rolled out the USC marching band to come down and play the Ranger's theme song. This was followed by an appearance by Depp himself who took to the stage in full Captain Jack Sparrow attire...wearing The Lone Ranger's mask.

The Lone Ranger, said to be an origin story, is written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.

This is a breaking new story, so we'll update you on the project, and Depp's possible involvement, as more details come in.

I'm not sure Johnny Depp is the best choice for the Lone Ranger. I hope Hollywood doesn't destroy another great character with misguided casting.

according to comingsoon.net he is set to play Tonto not the Lone Ranger

Update: Johnny Depp Playing Tonto in The Lone Ranger

They also said that Pirates 4 may be coming as well.

Quote:
I just walked out of the incredibly lavish Walt Disney Studios Showcase that previewed all of Disney's upcoming films for the next few years. The finale featured a trifecta of announcements regarding the one-and-only Johnny Depp. First, it was announced that he would be playing the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Second, the USC Marching Band paraded into the theater triumphantly playing The Lone Ranger theme song, before Johnny Depp dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow appeared on stage, confirming his casting as the Lone Ranger. And last but not least, host Dick Cook mentioned that this might mean we'll see another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, confirming that a fourth film from that franchise is also in the works. Johnny Depp has definitely become Disney's biggest star!

I dunno, $75 million (and it's probably upwards of $100 million after all is said and done) would be a lot of motivating coin for any actor.

How is it that I've known about The Lone Ranger movie for like a year? I dunno why, but I could've swore I read somewhere like a year ago that Bruckheimer, Verbinski and Depp were going to do the Lone Ranger. Maybe it was a dream and I am prophetic. How cool would that be?

While the title doesn't excite me at all, I do like Westerns. I'll at least wait for the trailer (or at least some story details) before passing judgment.

I was actually going to suggest Clooney, I think he'd be perfect. Or Matthew Fox from Lost. But Clooney's got the better voice, and the voice is important.

Depp as Tonto? I think that's a poor choice. I would hope he'd play the villian or something instead, he'd make a great cowboy. Not the ranger though.

He's doing exactly what he wants, nothing more. He has made it to that coveted point in an actor's career when he has already proven many times over how good he is. That's out of the way. He never has to worry about money. So now he is free to pick and choose what sounds interesting or, dare I say it, fun.

We all have the right of opinion and to be critics if we choose, but I say good for him.
