Thumbs up HDdvd(DOA)?-Hmmm!

been reading some interesting things today concerning blu-ray vs hddvd. well, i say that if blu-ray seems to be winning for now/right now, does that really, really, really dictate that hddvd may be/is done for? remember the tortoise vs the hare. hddvd may be the hare, so there may still be a chance for it to move ahead. sure blu-ray is releasing more and better titles. however, i like both formats because its hi-def dvd movies, and in most cases both sides have released some stunning looking hi-def movies on dvd. i would like to see both just exist together. however, being the real world here in this case, " there can only be one"(as quoted from the movie Highlander). personally i'm not counting hddvd out just yet. thats all.

Don't forget blu-ray was behind HD-DVD all of 2006. BD has just now passed HD-DVD for the first time

I'm confident that HD-DVD will never sell more software then bluray ever again due to -

- Most major movies of 2007 are BD exclusive
- Looming launch of PS3 in Europe
- It's pretty much a lock 5-10 million PS3s will be sold worldwide this year
- People who buy a PS3 will NOT buy HD-DVD
- BD's lead at the end of 2007 will be large enough to win support from all studios for 2008 while HD-DVD gains nobody.

HD-DVD isn't terrible, but Blu-ray should win because it is the superior technology.

Great post. The Euro PS3 Launch is going to be huge for Blu-ray, of course not as big as America but it will give it a nice boot.

So that makes BD the tortoise? And if you remember the tortoise and the hare story correctly, you'll remember the tortoise won.

BD may have been slow out the gate, but now it's dominating.

though HD-DVD has gained a small foothold here in europe, but it is small. We will need more than PS3 to get things rockin for BD here

True. And it'll happen, same as it has everywhere else.

HD-DVD is on its deathbed. The only thing that would remotely even save it is one of Blu-ray's studios going neutral (which isn't going to happen anytime soon.)

You'll see how pathetic HD-DVD really is in March when the PS3 is released in Europe and Casino Royale comes out on BD.

I think the Europeans are going to make quite the splash when that PS3 finally hits the streets, especially if they have a couple of really nice games waiting for 'em.

No doubt, especially given how popular the PS2 was Europe and how unpopular the Xbox brand as a whole is over there.

That being said, in addtion to Resistence and Motorstorm I would bet that Formula 1 Championship Edtion will be one of the PS3s best selling European games for a long time to come. They have a huge Formula 1 fan base and some will buy the system just because of that game.

yeah and the tortoise drives that formula 1 car so you better be careful cuz i think someone picked up the dead rabbit down road about a mile back for dinner.

microsoft has been putting their head up their ass farther and farther. so i figure they farther they shove it the further away from reality they get. Sony has taken all the information from their past experiences mainly beta max and have finaly figured out a plan to dominate the market 3 times in a row. no one has a chance. muwahahaha. lol

Even outside of that: Sony has a heck of a lot of experience in the gaming console world alone, in general.

You can never underestimate Microsoft, or even Nintendo for that matter. I hope this generation's console war is a bit closer and more competitive, because the gaming industry sorely needs all the fruits that come from close and tight competition.

Well put as Microsoft has proven that they'll stoop to the lowest level with regards to FUD and Nintendo to the highest level with regards to innovation.
