Default Hmmm... What should I get?

I just bought a s300 Blu-Ray Player yesterday to go with my 46" Sharp Aquos 1080p 92 series LCD.... And I don't have any movies.

I get free blockbuster rentals through work, so i can rent any movie i want for free, but I want to know what blu-rays i should buy.

I'm looking to purchase about 3.

Does anyone know the picture quality on Ice Age? And what about The Departed?

Also, post your recommendations of your top 3 blu-rays in terms of PQ, SQ, and overall if its a good movie worth owning.

Thanks!

So Braveheart and Gladiator are HD-DVD exclusives?

Yes they are.

Depending on how much you are willing to fork out, Planet Earth is a must. Also the Pirates of the Caribbean BD's are the highest rated for quality. I haven't seen the quality yet on Departed but heard it is good and the movie is awesome. Although its only in 1080i The Discovery Atlas series is pretty good too.

Ice Age 2 looked great, so I'd assume Ice Age would as well. Ice Age IMO was a better movie. I saw the Departed on HD DVD, but it looked great - I'd assume the same for blu-ray.

The 2 Pirates movies look great. Stargate was great. Only thing I've seen on blu-ray that was awful was Total Recall.

If you haven't seen the movie Crank, I'd recommend that. I haven't seen it on blu-ray, but have heard it looks good - The movie itself was great.

haha don't fret! Departed looks great. I liked the rock and con air (import friendly) and potc was brilliant as well. What kind of films are you into?

Have you seen Ice Age 2? I just though it was ok.. it didn't bore me, but it didn't excite me either. Crank would be much better

All these suggestions are good.

Here are a couple more for you:

Casino Royale
Letters from Iwo Jima

Excellent PQ on both and they are great movies.

-Casino Royale (a necessity)
-The Fifth Element (make sure you get the remastered one, not the original release)
-300 (beautiful movie, some grain...but that's intentional to the style of the movie)

I haven't watched any of the Pirates trilogy on blu-ray yet...but I would imagine they look amazing. If you're a fan of the series, go with the first Pirates.

If you're looking at disc sets, go for Planet Earth as it is absolutely gorgeous.

The Departed was a good movie as well, but it just didn't seem as crisp as some of the others I've seen on blu-ray.
