Default Who is the best movie character of all time?

Is it Heath Ledger's Joker or the field?

I vote for the Joker. I can't even think of who number 2 would be. It was the greatest performance I have ever seen.

sure he was good but i think people need to take their noses out of his ass. I cant think of "the best of all time" off the top of my head but lets get real.

Heath Ledger was great. However, I can think of a lot of actors who did a wonderful job doing their characters. This is a partial list:

Jeff Goldblum in The Fly (1986). In many ways, Heath Ledger was immitating Jeff Goldblum, particularly his tongue movement.
Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994). Unfortunately, comedians do not get any respect.
Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie (1982).
Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in Some Like it Hot (1959).
John Hurt in The Elephant Man (1980).
Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
Javier Bardem in No Country for Old Men (2007).
Charlize Teron in Monster (2003).
Hilary Swank in Boys Don’t Cry (1999) and Million Dollar Baby (2004).
Tony Curtis, Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, and Frank Sinatra in The List of Adrian Messenger (1963).
Charles Laughton in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939).
Charlie Chaplin (The Tramp) in almost all his movies.

With all due respect to Heath Ledger (RIP), there were many more memorable characters in the movies. That is one of the reasons we love and collect movies.

wheres the love for anthony hopkins as hannibal lector........or indiana jones or darth vader..........characters you think of before the movie itself...........though in the case of indy his names in the title so i guesse that doesnt count but still an iconic character.........so while ledgers joker was f'n amazing ill have to go with the field though ill take the dark knight over all those movies (except maybe silence)

I argued in person with someone about Indy. Indianna Jones is a great series and a great character, but individually Harrison Ford does not steel scenes the way the Joker did. In fact in the newest one, Shia Lebouf's character was better then Indy. It was more fun, more entertaining, and overall better.

Batman is more iconic. He is the main character. But heath ledger was the best part of every scene he was in.

Well Ledger's Joker is probably one of my all-time favorite movie characters but I won't necessarily say he is the greatest.

Scarface
Godfather
Yoda

Heath Ledger's Joker BEST EVER???? We seriously live in a "What have you done for me lately?" world. Have all of you just overlooked Keanu Reeves in Johnny Mnemonic? Sheesh...
