Default SONY STR DG920 vs. YAMAHA RX V663

What say you??

Back in the market for a receiver & these are what I have narrowed it down to. Slight bias towards Yamaha because of the DAC's. Also if anyone knows of promos, codes, or sales, please drop a line.
Cheapest I have seen the Sony 920 is $393.95 @ TechDepot - retail is $599

After looking at both of these, I might suggest also to look at two others that are both in the same price range.

The Pioneer 1018 and the Denon 1909.

I'd go with the Yammy (that's the one I chose).

:-)

I think if you read up on it, most like Yammy over Sony for recievers. You can get the 663 for 399 (or less).

I peaked at the Denon, but will definitely check out the Pioneer

Historically on here that is definitely true -- now that you made me think about it; I doubt there are more than a handful at this point on this site that even have the 920 yet

So I take it you are happy with the video quality your Yammy pumps out?? Do you have 6ohm or 8ohm speakers??

I went with the YAMAHA RX V863 (aka HTR-6180) over the Sony DG920 which is bit closer comparison in terms of HDMI INPUTS (3) versus Sony's (4).

Both offer full decoding of HD codecs, iPOD connection, similar RMS rating and numerous soundfields. The RX V863 is actually a 7 + 2 HTR because it can handle two subwoofers and has the ability of re-assigning the " B " speakers as two additional front presence channels so in a effect you could conceiveably have a 9 + 2 home theatre system.

For what it's worth, I believe that most contributors here at this forum don't particularily favour Sony receivers over the likes of Denon, Yamaha and Onkyo.

I my 920 Collector Set. Sound is very subjective, so I won't comment on the others. I will comment on mine though. It is great, my speakers sound awesome through it, I had it louder than I could stand it without it "lacking power" or "having the THD mess with me", the onscreen GUI is sweet (although not necessary), the video looks just as good as before through HDMI, etc.

I could go on all day. I love it and am glad I went with the Sony.

I have the V663, and it does this as well. I also contemplated between the V663 and the 820/920. But in the end I went with the V663 because it was available at the time (about 2 months ago) while neither of the Sony's were out yet. I just couldn't wait any longer, plus I got the Yammy for a steal from 6th Ave for $350 shipped.

I have no regrets so far with the Yammy. I have been using it with an 8-yr old HTIB sub, but just hooked up a new Acoustech H-100 yesterday. Have yet to really test it out, but I'm sure it will be much better now. And the Yammy runs very cool...no heat probs at all.

Question - Would it be advisable to hook up my old sub as a second sub along with my new one in a 6.2 setup? I'd figure it wouldn't hurt.
