Onkyo 805 and listening to cd's in stereo mode

Hi all, the other day I was testing out my new Klipsch F-3's and for the life of me I couldn't get my onkyo 805 to sound right when playing cd's in regular stereo mode, I turned off my sub to just listen to the speakers and what they could do alone, I was very dissapointed I just couldn't get them to sound right! hardly any bass came out of the woofers,I mean when I watch blu-rays they sound awesome, could it be the EQ on my reciever? if so the damn EQ is so F@@@in complicated! I was always used to a seperate graphic EQ, you know the ones where you actually move the knobs up and down to your liking, I now this may sound dumb but I don't know what the different khz things mean without looking at the normal EQ setup,the numbers make no sense to me! Damn, I just want to jam out to rockin cd's! Can anyone help? Thanks
