Default Onkyo 605 - Setting Up Listening Mode

What listening mode do I set up on my Onkyo 605 to get DTS-MA, Dolby TrueHD and PCM? I put each in the Direct mode, but the sound is Stereo and I have to switch it to DTS Neo:6 Cin, which sounds good, but I'm not sure that I'm hearing the signal as PCM, which is what Onkyo says DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD come through as. Is DTS Neo:6 Cin the same as PCM?

I don't believe you are supposed to run this in "Direct Mode".

I have an HDMI cable going from my Sony BDP-300 to the HDMI input in the Onkyo 605.

Direct will only output in 2-channel stereo.

I use the 'neural surround' mode. This seems to have the least amount of effects added. When watching TV, I use the 'Movie' surround mode. It makes normal TV channels have that 'movie' quality with more bass and clearer dialogue.

Although I haven't found a mode that just outputs it without any effects added yet. They all seem to do something to the sound.

Is the Neural mode the same as PCM or is Neural another type of sound setup?

I set it up in Multi-channel and the sound seems like it should be. I've never heard PCM before so I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to sound.

I have 7 speakers set up. Will Multi-channel play through all 7 speakers? I'm going to watch 'War' tonight and I hope it will.

direct outputs in Multichannel also.

Im just guessing but I think the OP has PCM downmix engaged in his s300 settings...forcing the two channel audio...

what movie are you trying to watch? (audio format?)

Neural outputs whatever comes in from all your speakers. If you're listening to PCM, it'll come out as PCM, and if you're listening to Dolby Digital, it'll be that.

I will try the multi-channel, because that seems like it would be more 'pure' sounding than neural.

Yes. I wish there was a calibration disc that had could test my set up with. I have Digital Video Essentials, but the audio portion is skimpy.

Onkyo says that DDHD and DTS HD will come through as PCM, which is fine with me.

I love the sound, but I'm just not sure if it's the way that it's supposed to sound. I'll have to watch a movie and see if it sounds natural.
